We have expert betting tips for the 2024 Triple J Hottest 100, which awards the best song in Australia this Saturday.
It’s always fun to watch which song is voted best of the year, and it’s currently Chappell Roan’s Good Luck, Babe! favoured to win at $1.50. However, we’re backing a local band to steal the title away from the American singer-songwriter.
We correctly predicted Doja Cat winning in 2023, so we’re gunning for a repeat, and we’re confident with our top pick.
Triple J Hottest 100 Winner Predictions
—
Most of the money has come for Roan’s Good Luck, Babe, and with good reason. However, despite Roan being one of the top-selling artists of 2024, we’re backing Royel Otis to win the Triple J Hottest 100.
Their cover of Murder on the Dancefloor is one of the better Like a Version covers we have seen. The lead singers voice is truly unique, and although it’s only a cover song, it was one of the best releases of the year.
Royel Otis is also an Australian band, and although that doesn’t mean they’ll win, we believe the release was more unique and better than Good Luck, Babe, which arguably sounds like most pop songs released in this day and age.
Good Luck, Babe is a song that will be quickly forgotten, but Royel Otis’s somewhat falsetto version of the Sophie Ellis-Bextor banger was excellent. Royal Otis’s two biggest songs are covers, including The Cranberries Linger, but they add something different to their covers.
It’s a great song and deserving of the award. We’re taking the $4.50 for Murder on the Dancefloor to win and give the band from Sydney the win.
Bet: Murder on the Dancefloor @ $4.50
Triple J Hottest 100 Best Value – Not Like Us
Arguably the most popular song of 2024 was Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us, which made rival rapper Drake look silly.
It was an excellent diss track that dug deep into Drake’s personal life. However, unlike most diss tracks, which are usually awful, Not Like Us is a good song and it’s played everywhere you go, including a recent ad campaign on ESPN.
Featuring video cameos from the likes of DeMar DeRozan and Tommy the Clown, it’s a great video, and it makes its mark on the music industry. Will it go down as the best-written song of all time? No, but it’s popular and one of Lamar’s hardest-hitting rap songs.
Punters get $10.00 for Not Like Us to win Triple J’s Hottest 100, and it’s worth a wager.
Bet: Not Like Us @ $10.00
Triple J Hottest 100 Top 3 – Espresso
There is no love for Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso with betting markets, but we’re happy to include her in our top three Triple J Hottest 100 predictions.
The American released the song early in the year, and it was a massive hit for not only teenagers, but every mum in the world knew the song. That’s the definition of a certified hit, and although it’s just another bubblegum pop song, it dominated the charts in 2024.
At one point in 2024, only two rock bands had entered the Billboard Top 100, which were Foo Fighters and Linkin Park. Rock bands aren’t nearly as popular as they were 10-20 years ago, which is why songs like Espresso get a high ranking.
Thankfully, Australian listeners are still interested in rock music, but for the sake of this bet, we’re backing Espresso to finish third in the voting at juicy odds of $7.50. The current favourite to finish third is Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, but we’re happy to take the risk with her American rival.
Bet: Espresso @ $7.50
