United was no match for the JackJumpers last week, but playing the Taipans is typically a cure for losing basketball games in the NBL.

The Taipans come off four consecutive losses, and they haven’t been out of second gear all year. It’s not good form, and it’s why United is the firm –12.5 favourite to score a convincing win in Bendigo on Wednesday night.

It was good seeing United post wins over the Hawks and Bullets, which shows that they can beat the easier teams in the league. It doesn’t get any easier than the Taipans, so the likes of Chris Goulding and Milton Doyle could dominate the game.

Injuries for Shea Ili and Finn Delany haven’t helped with their depth issues, but this is an ideal time for United to post a huge win.

Milton Doyle bounced back with 17 points against the JackJumpers, but more is needed from him if United wants to contend for a title. He has been largely disappointing, but the talent is there, which he showed earlier in the year.

Despite playing for a losing team, Jack McVeigh has been excellent. He had 26 points against the Phoenix before dropping 16 against the Hawks, and we expect him to score 20+ points in a losing effort for the Taipans.

Over 177.5 points is worth including in NBL multi bets. They combined for only 161 points in their last meeting, but Cairns scored only 67 points, so punters should expect more points this time around.

We’re surprised by the odds for Doyle to score 20+ points. He is a $1.60 chance to score 15+ and $3 for 20+, so punters get value for the American import.

He showed excellent form earlier in the year before going through a scoring drought, but after scoring 17 points last week, he might have found his stroke.

He’s an excellent value bet for United vs. Taipans.
