The NBL tips off this week for Round 3 action, kicking off with the Taipans vs. 36ers on Thursday night.

7:30pm Taipans vs. 36ers @ Cairns Convention Centre

It was a good start to the year for the 36ers, and although they’ve had some off-court distractions, their 87-80 win over Brisbane was a statement performance.

It has also been a good bounce back from the Taipans, who lost their first game 114-77 before beating Brisbane and Sydney in two upsets. They were close games, so they pulled out all the stops when they needed to, but Adelaide could have too much class.

Most of the money has come for the 36ers, and we agree with betting moves. The –5.5 line is fair, and considering their scoring talent, they should have too much power on the road.

9:30pm Wildcats vs. Hawks @ RAC Arena

It wasn’t the opening game the Hawks were wanting when losing to the JackJumpers at home, but they could bounce back.

JaVale McGee was exceptional for the Hawks, and the American import could produce another big effort to beat the Wildcats, who pulled out too much for the Breakers after a big fourth quarter last week. That was a solid effort, but it wasn’t overly impressive.

Playing in Perth isn’t easy, but this Wildcats team is there to be taken, and the Hawks have enough scoring prowess to win as underdogs.

Saturday 5/10/25

5:30pm Kings vs. Breakers @ Qudos Bank Arena

Betting Tip: Kings

It hasn’t been a happy start for the Breakers, who are living up to pre-season betting expectations at the bottom of the NBL ladder.

They looked to have the Wildcats beat last week, but they gave up a sizable lead in the fourth quarter, and that doesn’t bode well against a Kings team that doesn’t have too many holes in their defence. Therefore, we’re backing the Kings to get the job done.

The odds should have them at around –7.5, which they should cover. They have Kendric Davis, who could put up around 26 points on the Breakers, who simply don’t have enough scoring in their guards to keep up with modern NBL standards.

8:00pm Bullets vs. JackJumpers @ Brisbane Entertainment Centre

Betting Tip: JackJumpers

The JackJumpers have made a positive start to the year with two wins from three games, and we fancy their chances of beating the Bullets on the road.

The Bullets have been solid, but they have injury worries and not a lot of depth. There is no such problem for the JackJumpers, who upset the Hawks’ homecoming with a 91-87 win last week.

We expect more of the same from the visitors, who could pay generous odds with bookmakers on game night.
