Cairns Taipans vs Perth Wildcats @ Cairns Convention Centre

We expected the Cairns Taipans to handle the Tasmania JackJumpers but the 87-79 loss has put them in a must-win position against the Wildcats.

The Taipans have been the more consistent team throughout the season, including posting 18 wins from 28 games. The Wildcats posted 15 wins, but they enter this must-win game with momentum on their side after beating South East Melbourne Phoenix.

The 106-99 victory was a come-from-behind effort, but after scoring an incredible 41 points in the final quarter, they progressed.

Bryce Cotton had 26 points and a repeat of that effort would give the Taipans plenty of problems. However, the Taipans are a quality team and playing at home for the second time in a week should be enough to get the job done.

They have been a quality home team throughout the year, and despite the slip up on Thursday, we expect the home crowd to go away happy on Sunday afternoon.

We’re expecting odds around $1.70 for the Taipans, which would be worth snapping up.

New Zealand Breakers vs Tasmania JackJumpers @ Spark Arena

The New Zealand Breakers have an excellent record against the Tasmania JackJumpers and we expect that to continue on Sunday.

Playing at Spark Arena has been a happy hunting ground for the Breakers, who have exceeded expectations by finishing second on the NBL ladder.

They secured the second spot with a win over the Brisbane Bullets last week, and although the JackJumpers are fitter having played on Thursday, they have had to travel to Auckland, which isn’t always ideal.

They come off a tidy 87-79 win over the Taipans in Cairns, so they have proven that they can win on the road in tough situations. The JackJumpers also have finals experience from last season to call on, whereas the Breakers have struggled over the last few years.

However, given their current roster and having home court advantage, we’re taking the Breakers to keep their fans happy in the first game of the series.

Getting off to a winning start at home is a must, otherwise they head to Tasmanian facing elimination. They have the size and skill to hold off the challenge from the visitors and they’re even good enough to go all the way in 2023.

We expect bookmakers to have the Breakers around $1.60. They have been the better team throughout the year and they have the wood over the JackJumpers, so we expect that to continue in Game One of the series.
