Sydney Kings vs New Zealand Breakers Game 5 Preview
The New Zealand Breakers forced a Game 5 with a terrific win at Spark Arena on Sunday, so they enter the do-or-die clash with more momentum.
Foul trouble has been talked about throughout the series, and although the Breakers are getting the calls go against them, being able to win two games is credit to their talent.
However, the Kings have been dominant in their last two home games, so the Breakers need to turn those performances around. Xavier Cooks, who is off to the Washington Wizards, has been good despite battling niggling injuries.
He led the Kings to a massive 91-68 Game 3 win last Friday, so that could be in the Breakers’ minds. If the Breakers want to turn that performance around, they’ll need to muscle up, and force the Kings into putting up bad shots.
It all comes down to attitude for the NBL title. The Kings are the –5.5 favourites to win, but if they rest on their laurels, the Breakers are easily good enough to travel to Sydney and score the upset.
We expect the likes of Justin Simon and Cooks to have a big impact. Cooks has been quiet in their last two games, so if he wants to win a title before heading to the NBA, he needs to focus.
For the Breakers, look no further than Will McDowell-White. He needs to make his floater throughout the day, and his passing skills have been excellent.
NBL Championship Game 5 Betting Tips
We can’t back the Kings at $1.38. That is far too short, so we’re picking the Breakers to come away with the win and cover the spread.
They have been a Championship team throughout the year, and although the Kings finished with a better overall record, the Breakers had more momentum entering the finals.
Winning on the road won’t be easy, but they won Game 1 in Sydney and they could win the most important game of the year.
Getting +5.5 points is an excellent line in what should be a close game throughout. Look for the Breakers to get off to a fast start, as they usually do. The trouble will be coming out of halftime with the same energy, but given what’s on the line, they should be up for it.
New Zealand bookmakers have the Breakers at around $2.60, so punters using Australian sportsbook gets excellent value. Take the $2.91 and enjoy the final game of the 2022/23 NBL season.
Betting tip: New Zealand Breakers @ $2.91
