There is plenty of value available with bookmakers at the Monday meetings and we have our best bets across the card.
Yarra Valley racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:30) Ezi Debit Maiden (1009m)
#2 – Echelon @ $3.00
Echelon hasn’t been the most consistent type so far, but he ran second at Cranbourne three back, so something close to that is good enough.
The three-year-old son of Capitalist wasn’t all that far away fresh up at Cranbourne, and running at Yarra Valley should make life easier.
Look for a betting push late in the piece.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 2. (14:00) Yarra Valley Toyota Maiden (1209m)
#9 – Queen Katrina @ $3.00
Looking to go one better than her debut placing at Ballarat is Queen Katrina, who was only a half-length behind the winner.
The three-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon is in good hands for improvement, and there isn’t much depth in this field.
The only worry is the wide barrier, but centre track could be the place to be.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 3. (14:30) MYOB Maiden (1514m)
#8 – Suances @ $1.80
Suances was scratched from racing last week and she has found a winnable race on Monday.
The four-year-old mare by The Autumn Sun owns three placings on soft tracks and four placings from four starts overall.
The odds are justified, so include her in picks.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 4. (15:00) Manhari Maiden (1968m)
#6 – Cheers @ $11.00
We hope Cheers can improve with a couple of runs under his belt this preparation, which haven’t been overly flash.
The three-year-old son of Sepoy showed much better speed last prep when placing at Cranbourne and Traralgon, so he’s worth sticking with.
Given the double-figure odds, we’re including him.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (15:30) Bosch BM58 (1958m)
#6 – Superstock @ $3.70
Superstock is nearing a win after finishing not too far away from the winner at Sandown recently.
Form at Sandown bodes well for Monday racing at Yarra Valley, and the five-year-old is much better than a two-time winner.
His odds are likely to shorten close to start time, so take the current odds.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 6. (16:00) Bet365 BM64 (1514m)
#1 – Sorel Rising @ $3.90
Sorel Rising looks close to posting a win after consecutive placings at Bendigo, and he’s good enough to carry the weight to victory.
The five-year-old is a three-time winner from 12 starts, including a win on a wet track, so the conditions won’t worry him.
Money has come for him, and he could start as the favourite.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 7. (16:30) United Petroleum BM58 (1209m)
#5 – Grinzinger Moon @ $1.85
Grinzinger Moon is gunning for three consecutive wins, and although the level of opposition wasn’t strong, his wins came by 3.3 and 3.8 lengths.
The Ben Brisbourne-trained filly needed a confidence boost against weak fields, and she should be able to kick on with it now.
We’re not surprised by the odds available.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 8. (17:00) Jim’s Group BM58 (1009m)
#6 – Under My Thumb @ $2.70
Under My Thumb capped off four consecutive placings with a win at Cranbourne, and she won’t find this race any harder.
The four-year-old mare by Bel Esprit gets every chance off the inside draw, and although she’s yet to tackle a wet track, she shouldn’t be worried.
Take the $2.70 odds before they firm.
Stake: 2 Units
