Toorak Handicap Form Guide & Tips
(1) Desert Lightning ($10.00)
The former Kiwi won well last time out, and he shouldn’t be too far away from the prize at the top level.
He has ability and the double-figure odds are worth taking.
(2) Pericles ($8.00)
Backed and beaten twice this preparation, but he looked good winning two back. The ability is there and bookmakers haven’t missed him.
(3) Antino (Best Each Way – $5.00)
He has been running behind the best thoroughbreds in Australia, so he has every chance of beating this field.
It will be easier for him, and the big field plays into his hands, so take the each-way odds.
(4) Another Wil (Best Bet – $2.90)
A smart type in the making after winning seven of his 10 starts, including both starts this preparation at Caulfield.
The inside draw isn’t needed, but he should appreciate the trip.
(5) Light Infantry Man ($71.00)
Didn’t run well enough fresh up to consider at the big odds.
(6) Orchestral (Best Roughie – $10.00)
The New Zealand runner found the line well enough at Ellerslie to be considered here, and she has been primed for this run.
54kg on her back and she could hit the line best.
(7) Alsephina ($11.00)
A handy winner at The Valley last time out, but this is much harder. The winning record is impressive but we haven’t found room for her.
(8) Bank Maur ($71.00)
Struggling to win races and this isn’t the time to recapture form.
(9) Craig ($10.00)
He hit the line impressively behind Desert Lightning and winning this race isn’t beyond the four-year-old.
It’s a rise in class, but the Irish import has plenty of upside, so he’s worth including in Toorak Handicap picks.
(10) Jimmy the Bear ($46.00)
He’s a solid type on his day but we don’t think he’s up to winning this race.
(11) Magnaspin ($61.00)
Yet to fire in four attempts at Caulfield and we prefer to see him racing in something much easier.
He’s drawn to get all favours in the run, and he’ll be there to strike, but his late burst could be flattened by the class of the field.
(12) Osipenko ($14.00)
Money has come for Osipenko, but although she ran well for fourth last time out, we can’t see her figuring in the finish.
Dropping in weight helps, but there are too many nice types in this field to warrant inclusion.
(13) Wishlor Lass ($41.00)
A tough effort behind Another Wil last start but it would take a much better run to finish that close on Saturday.
