Thorndon Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) One Bold Cat ($19.00)
He’s an eight-time winner from 20 starts, but he could struggle to beat this quality field, hence the drifting odds.
(2) Puntura ($10.00)
Puntura hasn’t been too far away from the winner this season, but not being able to win races is concerning.
He’s a two-time winner at Trentham, which bodes well, and he could get back to his best form at the track.
(3) Sharp ‘N’ Smart ($7.50)
Sharp ‘N’ Smart is a proven Group 1 winner, which came in Derby races. His best form is much better than the opposition, but it has been a long time between drinks.
We’re happy to include him in our picks based on his most recent effort, and there has been steady money come for him.
(4) Aegon ($9.00)
Aegon is another Australian-performed runner who ran well for second at Ellerslie last time out.
That followed some average form in Australia, including running 12th at Caulfield behind Mighty Ulysses, and he’s better than that.
He’s a chance to figure in the finish.
(5) Marotiri Molly (Best Bet – $5.00)
She is a four-time winner from her last five starts, and she is a Group 1 winner in the waiting.
The six-year-old mare by Per Incanto owns three wins from four starts at Trentham, and getting in with 55kg adds to her appeal.
We’re happy with the each-way odds available.
(6) Town Cryer ($19.00)
Expectations have been high for Town Cryer this season and she hasn’t quite delivered at her last two starts.
She will need to improve to beat a field of this quality and we’re not sure if she’s running well enough to go close enough.
(7) Lighting Jack ($21.00)
Lighting Jack hit the line nicely last time out but this field has more depth and we can’t include him in our picks.
(8) Mali Ston ($16.00)
After opening at $13.00, there hasn’t been much money for Mali Ston, who finished third behind Khafire last start.
We don’t rate that form good enough to win the Thorndon Mile, and the odds don’t interest us.
(9) He’s a Doozy ($23.00)
He’s struggling to win race and that’s reflected in the betting. He is a six-time winner at Trentham, but that’s where the positives end.
(10) Hi Yo Sass Bomb ($12.00)
She was no match for Snazzytavi at Ellerslie last start but she’s always better going this way around.
Look for her to settle back and come with a big late run, but she needs moisture in the surface, and we don’t see any rain in the forecast.
It could pay to watch for any late betting moves.
(11) Kelly Coe ($23.00)
She comes off a tough win at Matamata but she’s not a Group 1-winning type. We would need much longer odds to include her in picks.
(12) Malt Time (Best Each Way – $10.00)
Malt Time had no luck at Ellerslie behind Provence, and she’s good enough to turn the tables.
Getting in with only 53kg helps her cause and despite being one of the unluckier runners in the field, she’s worth including at the price.
(13) Pearl of Alsace (Best Roughie – $12.00)
Her recent trial was a fine display when hitting the line under a hold, which should top her off nicely for this run.
There is a big win in store for the six-year-old at some point, and punters get value odds to enjoy on Saturday.
(14) Provence ($15.00)
She won well two back at Ellerslie before finishing fourth behind Bourbon Empress, and we don’t think that’s the best form guide.
(15) Qali Al Farrasha ($13.00)
After opening at $21.00, money has come for the Te Akau runner. She went close last time out at Pukekohe and she’s good enough to figure in the finish at odds.
