The Gold Rush Form Guide & Tips

(1) Overpass (Best Bet – $3.90)

He lost no admirers when running second in the Winterbottom Stakes, and we wished Joshua Parr hadn’t left the rail.

The sprinting champion lost a bit of momentum and allowed the winner to come along the inside, but it was still a terrific effort.

He’s the best horse in the race, so put him on top.

(2) Western Empire ($10.00)

He keeps running well this campaign without winning. Drawing wide won’t help his chances over this distance, but he’s running too well to leave out.

He’s a must-include for trifecta and first four picks at double-figure odds.

(3) Jokers Grin (Best Each Way – $5.00)

Beaten in the Winterbottom when running fifth, but not everything went his way. He got back in the run and never really got a clear shot at them.

It was a complete forgive and forget run and getting $5 for a runner with his ability to an excellent price from bookmakers.

(4) Magnificent Andy (Best Roughie – $41.00)

A runner who could boost payouts is Magnificent Andy, who runs at $41. He keeps running well, and he scored a good win fresh up.

He has been right behind them in some tough races, so the odds make him a worthwhile first four pick.

(5) Comfort Me ($101.00)

He kicked off this prep with two placings, but he’s a nine-year-old, and he’ll likely struggle against some elite Group 1 types.

(6) Bustler ($101.00)

Unable to show much in three starts this campaign, and that’s unlikely to change against this field.

(7) Iowna Merc ($46.00)

A travelling partner for Overpass, but he would need to turn his form around to have any chance of figuring in the finish.

The odds are spot on, so leave him out of Gold Rush picks.

(8) Oscar’s Fortune ($27.00)

He started this prep with two good placings, and that form has stacked up. However, this is a tough field, and he didn’t fire his best last time out.

A first four chance if you have room for one more, especially off the inside draw.

(9) Rey Magnerio ($7.50)

He doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and we love the way he hit the line behind Libertad and Overpass in the Winterbottom.

That’s the best form guide for The Gold Rush, so he can’t be left out.

(10) Cosmic Crusader ($4.00)

His win in the Northerly Stakes last week was good, but the drop to 1600m is a slight concern. He’s a star runner with eight wins from 16 starts, and although we’re not leaving him out, $4 is too short for our liking.

(11) Rope Them In ($8.00)

He ran well in the Winterbottom Stakes, but we don’t know how much improvement he has left. $8 is on the shorter side of value, and because of the depth of this field, we’re choosing to leave him out.

(12) Aztec Ruler ($51.00)

Better last start when second, but he would need to find a few lengths on his best form.

(13) Super Smink ($17.00)

She was left flat-footed last start. We would have liked to have seen much bigger odds, and she’s not suited at the weights.
