Tamworth racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:30) Dynamic Fire Mornington Handicap (2100m)
#3 – Tajawal @ $3.30
Tajawal is always around the mark with a win and two placings this preparation, with the win coming at Taree in March.
The five-year-old gelding by Frankel owns two wins and seven placings from 16 starts, including finishing second at his only start at Tamworth.
His $3.30 odds are likely to firm on race day, so take the value.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (13:05) KCE Civil Contractors Maiden (1400m)
#4 – Cheeky Dancer @ $2.15
Looking to improve on a recent third placing is Cheeky Dancer, who battled on gamely at Hawkesbury.
The four-year-old mare looks to have more improvement than most in this field, which is why her opening $2.25 odds have firmed.
She is the testing material, and it won’t take her long to exit maidens.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 3. (13:40) Concrete Industry Romantic Dream Plate (1000m)
#5 – Bullant @ $3.20
Bullant is closing in on a win after finishing third at Wellington last start, and it should be a good form guide.
The two-year-old filly will only be better for two runs under her belt, and she will find this easier than what she faced last start.
55kg is ideal, and it could pay to follow the money.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 4. (14:20) Win Network Maiden (1000m)
#1 – Yanabah @ $4.60
Yanabah showed good signs last preparation, including placings at Quirindi and Gunnedah.
The son of So You Think doesn’t meet an easy field on Thursday, but having race experience on his side adds to his appeal.
Getting 1.5kg off his back only adds to our confidence.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (14:55) McDonald’s Tamworth C1 (1400m)
#1 – Bolt Away Now @ $5.50
Bolt Away Now was backed and beaten fresh up at Scone, but it wasn’t a bad run behind Speedy Henry.
The four-year-old chased gamely and he didn’t get all favours in the run, so we’re happy to stick with him at the odds.
He has yet to run worse than second at Tamworth, so that’s a good sign.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 6. (15:35) Wests Entertainment Group Jackal Sprint (1200m)
#10 – Arctic Legend @ $4.60
Seeking consecutive wins is Arctic Legend, who won by 1.8 lengths at Tamworth last time out.
The four-year-old son of Frosted is a three-time winner at Tamworth, so he’s a track specialist with plenty of upside.
Barrier four and 55kg on his back makes him a winning threat.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (16:10) Tamworth City Tamworth Cup (1400m)
#10 – Lisztomania @ $4.40
Value is with Lisztomania, who won fresh up at Randwick before placing at Tamworth and Randwick last time out.
The son of Dream Ahead was only a nose behind a smart type in Know Thyself, and that form should stack up in the feature race.
54kg is ideal, and we’re happy with the odds available from bookmakers.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 8. (16:50) Elite Sand & Soil John Clift Memorial BM58 (1000m)
#12 – Quick Sharp @ $2.25
Despite not winning this preparation, Quick Sharp should be tough to hold on against this field.
The three-year-old daughter of Bull Point won on debut at Scone by 1.8 lengths before placing at Scone and Dubbo.
Her best form is good enough to put this field away with ease.
Stake: 2 Units
