TAB Telegraph Form Guide & Tips
(1) Crocetti (Best Each Way – $7.00)
He is unbeaten in three fresh up starts, and he looked forward in a recent trial. Punters get each-way odds, so he’s worth backing, and his odds could shorten on race day.
At one point, he was one of the most exciting sprinters in NZ, so stick with him.
(2) Spencer ($31.00)
Two wins from his last four starts, but those wins haven’t come at this level. We’re happy to leave him out of our picks against an elite field.
(4) Navigator ($14.00)
Not the easiest runner to follow. He has stacks of ability but rarely produces the goods when it counts. His odds are too short given his inability to deliver.
(5) Our Echo ($67.00)
Most of his best form comes in South Island races, and we can’t see that form stacking up well enough in the Group 1 Telegraph.
(6) Lhasa ($67.00)
Not too far away from the mark recently, but not against this level of opposition. He would need to find a few lengths just to go close.
(7) Master Fay ($23.00)
Solid enough form this prep, including a win and a placing. Punters get value odds, and the odds are much better than we expected.
It’s not an easy race, but we rated him at $12, so we’re including him in first four picks.
(8) Platinum Attack (Best Roughie – $10.00)
A three-time winner at Trentham, and from the wide draw, he will get back and look to finish strongly down the outside.
He gets New Zealand’s leading rider on board, which adds to his appeal.
(9) Tardelli ($10.00)
He looked good when winning fresh up, and he has since added two placings. We’re not sure if he’s an elite Group 1 sprinter, so we’re leaving him out of our picks. However, if he’s well-backed on race day, he could be worth a look.
(10) First Five ($10.00)
An upset winner at Te Rapa last time out, but that was a different race. This is much harder, but there is an air of confidence in the stable.
We’re happy to include him in picks at the double-figure odds.
(11) Slipper Island ($51.00)
He owns five wins from seven starts at Trentham, but he’s unwanted in betting markets. He’s not the worst runner in the field, so if you can find room, he could be worth including to boost payouts.
(12) Party Rocking ($67.00)
A last-start winner, but that came in much easier grades. We expect him to struggle at Group 1 level.
(13) Grail Seeker ($10.00)
A proven winner at the top level, but her two starts this prep have been average. Returning to Trentham as the defending champion could see her form turn around.
(14) Tomodachi (Best Bet – $3.10)
Some form guides don’t have a jockey for Tomodachi, but we can confirm James McDonald is booked to ride the exciting mare.
She owns six wins from 10 starts, and she comes off a Group 1 placing over 1400m at Ellerslie behind Quintessa and La Crique.
She’s our best bet to win the feature race.
(15) Ardalio ($6.00)
Money has come for Ardalio, who scored at Group 3 level last time out at Pukekohe. It was a tidy effort, but $6 is surprising from bookmakers.
We rated her at $10, but she can’t be left out of picks.
(16) To Cap It All ($21.00)
The definition of a “gunna”, because she’s always going to win but never does. She’s a filly who should be run off her feet.
