Surround Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Tempted (Best Bet – $1.60)
Tempted is one of the best sprinters in Australia, and although Tentyris is all the rage in Melbourne, Tempted has better form lines.
She ran second behind Ya King Rising, who is the world’s best racehorse, and that can’t be overlooked. It came in The Everest, and she returned from a spell with a devastating win at Randwick.
The $1.60 is warranted, and she should put this field away.
(2) Apocalyptic (Best Each Way – $4.40)
She lost no admirers when placing behind Savvy Hallie fresh up, and she will derive good benefit from that outing.
The filly by Extreme Choice needed the run, but she chased gamely, and she is much better suited to the Surround Stakes.
We don’t think she’s quick enough to beat the favourite, but rising to 1400m suits her more, and she’s paying a better price.
(3) Ole Dancer ($11.00)
She ran second fresh up at Flemington behind Sass Appeal. It was a solid return, and by all accounts, she wasn’t there to win.
It was a preparation run for bigger things this autumn, which should tell the punters something. Her odds are worth including as a value bet.
(4) Savvy Hallie (Best Roughie – $11.00)
Savvy Hallie was too good for Apocalyptic last time out, when she showed them a clean pair of heels off the front.
She has always been an elite level filly, and she could go from strength to strength now. We expect her to finish in the placings, and she could give them something to catch.
(5) Karinska ($35.00)
She wasn’t too far away from the prize when fifth last time out, but she might need more time to mature this time in.
(6) Sunrays ($34.00)
Her form early on was top shelf, but she hasn’t come back with much this season. There is still a good win to come, but it might come during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The odds tell the story, so save her for another day.
(7) Panova ($16.00)
The future is bright for Panova, who comes off back-to-back wins. She meets a much stronger Group 1 field now, but the McDonald/Waller combo has a good strike rate.
She’s an interesting runner at double-figure odds, and she could run in the money.
(8) Queen of Clubs ($151.00)
She is at long odds for a reason. Many lengths are needed to go close.
