Punters always get value odds throughout the day in Queensland, and we have betting tips for every race at the meeting.
Sunshine Coast racing tips
—
Race 1. (14:38) Tab Maiden (1000m)
#4 – Balance the Books
Balance the Books comes off consecutive trial wins at Doomben and Deagon, with the most recent coming by 2.8 lengths.
The three-year-old filly by Capitalist is in good hands with Tony Gollan, so we expect plenty of betting support to come her way.
Anything around $2 would be a good price from bookmakers.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 2. (15:13) Martin Collins Australia Maiden (1000m)
#5 – Fifth Major
Looking to improve on solid efforts in her first campaign is Fifth Major, who could take advantage of a moderate maiden field.
She ran fifth on debut at Sunshine Coast before finishing fourth at Ipswich behind Six More Songs, and she will only improve with racing under her belt.
We expect money to come for her on race day, so take the opening odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (15:48) Access Insulation BM65 (1000m)
#8 – Tipsy Tiger
Tipsy Tiger is a three-year-old filly who showed good speed last prep when winning on debut at Ipswich by 1.5 lengths.
The daughter of Jungle Cat has since added placings at Kilcoy and Doomben before struggling at Gold Coast last time out.
She’s another Gollan-trained runner with plenty of upside.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 4. (16:23) Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks BM65 (1000m)
#4 – New Hampshire
New Hampshire is only a three-time winner from 26 starts, but he’s good enough to handle this field.
The son of I Am Invincible has had seven starts at Sunshine Coast for a win and three placings, so he knows this track well.
Barrier three is ideal and he should be right in the thick of the finish.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (16:58) Caloundra RSL C2 (1800m)
#1 – Counter
Counter has been awfully disappointing in three runs back from a spell, but we’re giving him one more chance.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding drops back to provincial level having run behind Age of Sail last start, so it’s a significant drop in class.
If he can’t improve on Wednesday, there isn’t much hope for his best form returning.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 6. (17:33) Kelvacat Power Boats C1 (1200m)
#5 – Simply Excels
Gollan lines up Simply Excels, who showed good pace throughout when scoring narrowly at Ipswich last time out.
The four-year-old gelding by Exceed and Excel has a big weight of 60kg to carry, but it shouldn’t matter too much over 1200m.
Ryan Maloney rides, which adds to our confidence levels.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (18:10) Maeva Hospitality BM62 (1400m)
#11 – Guru Class
Guru Class might have needed two runs back from a spell, so we’re giving her another chance.
The Matthew Dunn-trained mare looked much better when winning at Grafton last prep, so anything close to that is good enough.
It’s another ride for Maloney, who could have a successful meeting.
Stake: 1 Unit
