Sandown racing tips
Gold Medallist keeps winning after scoring at Bendigo last start, and although rising in class for this race, she should be tough to beat.
She’s unbeaten from three starts, and the four-year-old mare has shown toughness to win all three starts, which is a good asset.
Barrier two is ideal, so expect another big run.
Stake: 1 Unit
Al Duca is on the quick back-up after winning last week at Caulfield, and he loves running at Sandown with two starts for a win and a placing.
The five-year-old son of Al Maher owns five wins and five placings from 13 starts, so his overall record is tough to look past.
This field is there for the taking, so we’re happy to back him again.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Shining Smile avoids some of the tough types he has been facing recently, including Legacy Bound and Jimmy Recard.
This is a much easier target, and although he carries 6kg more than any other runner, his class should be enough to get him home.
Include him in picks despite the big weight.
Stake: 2 Units
It was a good resuming run from King Zephyr, and it shouldn’t take the five-year-old long to get back to winning form.
The son of Hallowed Crown showed good ability last prep when winning five of his seven starts, including two minor placings.
That’s excellent form, and he’s unbeaten in two starts at Sandown.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Chris Waller lines up Fermoy, who is due a win after a good second placing at Rosehill last time out.
Coming to Victoria should only help his chances of winning, and there are high expectations for the Coolmore runner.
He should find this race more to his liking, so take the odds.
Stake: 2 Units
Not a lot went right for Ole Dancer at The Valley last start after getting back and having to come wide down the straight.
He should be much better suited to running at Sandown, and if he’s anything near his best, he should be tough to beat.
He won well at Caulfield two back, so that’s a good form guide.
Stake: 1 Unit
Evaporate is the class runner of the field with Group 1 form, and he has been primed with a jumpout win following a fresh up fifth.
The four-year-old son of Per Incanto has been consistent throughout his career, and any horse good enough to run in the Cox Plate is good enough to win the Sandown Stakes.
He will get back from the draw and finish strongly.
Stake: 2 Units
We are choosing to give Pounding one last chance to show us something. He hasn’t been consistent this prep, but he throws in the odd top performance.
He ran second at Caulfield three back behind Jimmy the Bear, and rising to 1800m could see that form return.
The odds make him a worthwhile bet in the last race.
Stake: 1 Unit
