Empire Song showed good speed when winning a jumpout at Cranbourne, which is often a good guide for debutants.
The two-year-old son of Hanseatic comes from a good stable, and there has been solid early money for him at $4.60.
It’s an even field, so race day betting moves could tell the story.

Each-way value is with Coyote, who was scratched from racing at Ballarat on Wednesday, and this is an easier contest.
The Hayes-trained gelding ran fifth at Wodonga on debut before running third at Werribee, but he didn’t have much peace near the lead.
He should be better for that run, so include him in picks.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Despite drawing wide, Star Angel should have every chance of breaking maidens on Thursday.
The Freedman-trained filly ran second at Bendigo last time out behind Just Jenni, which is a good form guide for maiden racing.
Take the $5 as those odds should shorten on race day.
Stake: 2 Units
Scorpion has been backed and beaten a handful of times, but we’re prepared to give the three-year-old gelding another chance.
The son of So You Think ran second at Sale two back before finishing fourth at Cranbourne as a $4.60 chance, and we’re not surprised by the shorter odds.
He only needs a good run in transit over the longer distance to put them away.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Seeking consecutive wins at Sale is Tabor, who broke maidens with a tough 1.3-length win last start.
The Busuttin/Young-trained gelding is paying much better odds than the $2.70 he paid on that occasion, so he’s a solid value bet.
There is more depth to this field, but he’s a progressive type.
Stake: 1 Unit
Punters get value odds for Quite the Lass, who hasn’t been at her best this preparation, but we’re giving her another chance.
The six-year-old mare has been racing at Sandown mostly, and racing there is harder than Sale. She’s also a past winner on the track, which adds to her claims.
Hannah Edley takes 2kg off her back, so the odds are worth snapping up.
Stake: 1 Unit
Seindeel has made a positive start to his career with a win and a placing from five starts, and it looked as though he needed the fresh up effort.
The well-bred gelding by Dundeel is bred to enjoy longer distances, so rising from 1200m to 1415m should be right up his alley.
After opening at $4.50, he has been confidently backed into $3.50.
Stake: 2 Units
Consistency is with Jakivy, who scored back-to-back wins at Pakenham before finishing second last time out.
Most of his best form comes on good tracks, but he has a placing in heavy conditions, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
Getting weight off his back should be enough to take him close.
Stake: 1 Unit
