Railway Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Western Empire ($4.20)
A winner of this race in 2021, but it’s such a tough race to carry weight. The last 11 winners have carried 53.5kg or less, so carrying 58kg is tough.
However, he’s all class, and we like the way he hit the line last start. He can’t be left out of multiples.
(2) Magnificent Andy ($31.00)
He showed good speed when winning fresh up before being right behind the mark in two subsequent runs.
He would need to find a couple of lengths to win, and he’s not well weighted.
(3) Iowna Merc ($18.00)
Bjorn Baker knows how to pull off a win in Perth. Iowna Merc didn’t fire last start, but he has enough ability to beat this field.
Sydney form usually stacks up well in the West.
(4) Super Smink ($9.00)
A big effort to score last start. Many of the favoured runners are drawn wide, but they have time to find cover.
She is good enough to beat this field and go back-to-back, so include her in Railway Stakes exotics.
(5) In Good Order ($20.00)
Only a one-time winner at Ascot, and he’s a touch too short in the making for our liking. Pay attention if there is a big betting move throughout the week.
(6) Osipenko ($11.00)
Chris Waller brings over Ospineko, and the visitors have been given wide draws. He will likely settle back in the field and be left with too much to do, so we’re not interested in the odds.
(7) Comfort Me ($31.00)
Solid placings this preparation but we don’t rate him as a Group 1 type. His odds are likely to drift throughout the week.
(8) Diamond Scene ($20.00)
An eight-time winner at Ascot that got the better of Comfort Me last start. It was a comfortable winner, so he could add some value at double-figure odds.
(9) Bustler ($67.00)
Yet to show much in two starts this prep. His best days might be behind him.
(10) Let’s Galavhant ($91.00)
He didn’t show much fresh up, hence the long odds. It would be a massive upset if he finished in the first four.
(11) Sentimental Hero ($126.00)
Another runner at long odds. Comes off back-to-back wins, but those came in much easier races.
(12) Watch Me Rock (Best Bet – $3.70)
Boasting 10 wins from 18 starts is the race favourite Watch Me Rock. He showed his class last start, and he should have won fresh up as well.
He has drawn perfectly in barrier four, so he’ll get the jump on the other favoured runners. That could make the difference, and his odds could firm on race day.
Take the odds available and include him in all picks.
(13) Admiration Express ($126.00)
Big odds and rightfully so after showing little in two runs this prep.
(14) Depth of Character (Best Each Way – $13.00)
Another Sydney visitor drawn the car park. He comes off a fourth in the Golden Eagle, which is an excellent form guide.
He needs a serious amount of luck, but the $13 odds are too good to pass up.
(15) Ginger Baker ($251.00)
Huge odds and little chance of winning.
(16) Storyville (Best Roughie – $18.00)
An excellent bet, and she carries 53kg. That’s the magic number, and she should settle midfield and come with a big late run.
She was too good for them last time out, and the $18 odds are generous. She’s going under the radar as a winning hope.
(17) Hemlock Stone ($151.00)
Disappointing in two runs this prep. Unlikely to improve.
(18) Yonga Lass ($151.00)
Drifting odds since markets opened, which isn’t surprising. She would need to improve.
(19) Aztec Ruler ($201.00)
Better last start but this is much harder. Can’t be fancied.
(20) Cosmic Crusader ($11.00)
A chance to win with a run, but he needs four scratchings. That’s unlikely to happen.
