Queensland Derby Form Guide & Tips
(1) Tannhauser (Best Each Way – $4.20)
That was an impressive when beating Autumn Angel last start, and it could quinella the race again.
Punters get each-way odds to enjoy for Saturday’s Queensland Derby.
(2) Warmonger ($8.50)
Nothing wrong with his second placing last start, and we’re not surprised by the each-way odds.
If he runs up to the same level, he should be right in the mix, and rising to 2400m isn’t a worry.
(3) Encoder ($41.00)
His form this prep hasn’t been good enough. Better last start, but he needs to find a few lengths on that effort.
(4) Gold Bullion ($34.00)
In good hands with Waterhouse/Bott, but his form has been mixed this season.
He’s another runner that needs to improve to win the Queensland Derby.
(5) Navy King ($23.00)
A last-start winner at Flemington. That form could stand up nicely, so he’s not the worst play at the double-figure odds.
(6) Kirikan ($71.00)
His form has tapered off significantly, and we doubt he’ll recapture it at Group 1 level.
(7) Felix the Scat ($46.00)
Improving with every run this preparation, but this is another rise in class. We expect him to struggle against this class.
(8) Sonofdec ($31.00)
Back-to-back wins entering this race, but like many of them, his form hasn’t come against the top level thoroughbreds.
Barrier 21 won’t help his cause.
(9) Bullets High ($23.00)
Turned his form around when winning at Warwick Farm. That came by only a nose, and his odds have firmed.
We would need much bigger odds to entertain his chances.
(10) Agita ($27.00)
His form this prep hasn’t been good enough, and we expected odds around $46.00.
(11) Warialda Warrior ($61.00)
A winner earlier this campaign, but he hasn’t looked good since. We can’t entertain his chances.
(12) First Innings ($20.00)
New Zealand form usually stacks up well in the Queensland Derby. He ran third at Ellerslie two back before winning at Ipswich.
That was an easy win, and his $31.00 odds have firmed, so include the Kiwi.
(13) Shy Guy ($61.00)
That was a better run for third, but even being from the Waller stable isn’t enough to include him in selections.
(14) Saban (Best Roughie – $18.00)
Saban is still in his first campaign, but he hasn’t done much wrong so far, including a win two back.
Anything close to that form would be good enough to go close, and there has been specking for him.
(15) Anderson Bridge ($91.00)
Another Waller-trained runner who isn’t running well enough.
(16) Purveyor ($126.00)
A winner fresh up but his form since has been terrible. Can’t have him here.
(17) Moonlight Magic ($35.00)
A last-start winner and another Kiwi with a chance. Chance with a similar effort on Saturday.
(18) Autumn Angel (Best Bet – $2.50)
Autumn Angel is a quality filly, and she’s good enough to beat the boys.
Getting the inside draw should secure a good run throughout, and carrying 55kg over 2400m helps.
We’re happy with the drifting odds, having opened at $1.80.
(19) Mannerheim ($71.00)
Mixing his form, but it’s not good enough to figure in the finish.
(20) Misterkipchoge ($35.00)
Second behind a nice type last start. Needs some luck to get into the field.
(21) Saxon Brave ($251.00)
Running well against lower-graded types. Needs to find many lengths to win.
(22) Kadavar ($101.00)
Unlikely to run and unlikely to win if he makes it.
(23) Kairos Louie ($251.00)
No chance of winning at Group 1 level.
