QEII Cup Form Guide & Tips
(1) Goliath (Best Each Way – $5.50)
He is a nice European, and they have a good record in this race. It could pay to forget his last run in Japan, and he has been spelled for this race.
Punters get each-way odds, and they’re worth snapping up.
(2) Prognosis ($9.00)
We have been disappointed with the Japanese runner throughout his international career, but he did finish second behind Via Sistina in the Cox Plate.
He was eight lengths behind, but he needs to get back to that form to have any chance on Sunday.
(3) Tastiera ($6.50)
He finished third behind Romantic Warrior in the Hong Kong Cup, and he hasn’t been seen since. The Japanese runner is good enough to make an impact, hence the odds.
We’re happy to include him in our picks.
(4) Calif ($41.00)
He ran well for second fresh up before struggling last time out. As the odds suggest, he’s unlikely to figure in the finish.
(5) El Vencedor (Best Roughie – $10.00)
The Kiwi runner loves to sit on the pace and kick strongly, and with four consecutive wins under his belt, he should go well.
NZ runners don’t always have the best record in Hong Kong, but Purton rides, which adds to our confidence levels.
(6) Straight Arron ($10.00)
We’re including Straight Arron in picks at $26. He got the better of some smart types last start, so he could replicate that effort and go close.
(7) Ensued ($10.00)
He wasn’t far away when placing in consecutive runs, but his most recent effort was only fair. We’re not thrilled by thee $10 odds, so leave him out of picks.
(8) Moments in Time ($41.00)
Solid enough form recently but is it good enough to win the QEII? Unlikely, so leave him out.
(9) Cap Ferrat ($9.00)
The Hong Kong Derby winner at his last start. A big chance if that form holds against older horses, and we’re prepared to take the risk that it does.
(10) Rubylot ($5.50)
Big bets have come for Rubylot, which is surprising. We don’t rate his form good enough to beat this field, and $5.50 is too short.
It’s a risk, but we’re choosing to leave him out of our QEII picks.
(11) Liberty Island (Best Bet – $4.00)
She ran second behind Romantic Warrior in the Hong Kong Cup, and that’s excellent form for this race.
Her most recent effort at Meydan was only fair, but finishing 3.7 lengths behind Soul Rush is a solid result, so put her on top.
