Oakleigh Plate Form Guide & Tips
(1) I Am Me ($9.50)
She owns a terrific fresh up record and she’s good enough to put this field away. Therefore, we’re not leaving her out of Oakleigh Plate picks.
(2) Estriella ($4.80)
Her odds have drifted a touch after opening at $4.50, and we agree with the drift. She’s going in our picks, but she needs to be at her best to win.
Being unbeaten in two starts at Caulfield is a good sign, so ruling her out would be a mistake.
(3) Golden Boom ($26.00)
We’re not sure if Queensland form is good enough to win a Group 1 in Melbourne, so we’re leaving him out.
Drawing barrier 13 makes it even harder to win.
(4) Ostraka ($20.00)
We would have included Ostraka had it not been for the wide draw. He will struggle to find a spot in the field, and by the time he does, it could be all over.
(5) Rey Magnerio ($9.50)
As consistent as they come and he comes off a tough win at Caulfield where he got up right on the line.
It doesn’t pay to rule him out of any race, so we’re happy to include him in trifecta and first-four selections.
(6) Insurrection ($31.00)
Second behind Rey Magnerio last start. He has drawn wide and that run might have been his peak, so we’re not enticed by the odds.
(7) Jimmysstar (Best Each Way – $10.00)
He owns three fresh up wins from four starts, and he’s also a three-time winner at Caulfield.
Barrier 14 won’t make it easy over this distance, but the five-year-old son of Per Incanto is well worth including at the price.
(8) Brudenell ($71.00)
His last two placings are solid performances, but as the odds suggest, he would need to lift to win the Oakleigh Plate.
(9) Hard to Say ($51.00)
Mixing his form this preparation and we don’t think he’s a genuine Group 1 sprinter.
(10) Sghirripa (Best Roughie – $13.00)
It could pay to overlook the recent form of Sghirripa, who is much better than advertised.
He is a seven-time winner from 20 starts, and getting in with 52.5kg should make him tough to beat against the field.
We’re happy with the double-figure odds.
(11) Ashford Street ($46.00)
A last-start winner but we can’t see him going back-to-back.
(12) Headwall ($31.00)
He ended last prep with consecutive wins at Randwick and Kembla Grange. An interesting runner, but he might not be ready for this level.
(13) Prairie Flower ($67.00)
Solid enough form this campaign in much easier races. Likely to struggle in the top grade.
(14) Sans Doute ($101.00)
Yet to win fresh up and we think bookmakers have her at the right price.
(15) She’s Bulletproof (Best Bet – $5.00)
The four-year-old mare scored impressively at Sandown last time out, which took her record to four wins and six placings from 11 starts.
This is her ultimate test, but with only 52kg and Craig Williams on her back, she should be the one to beat.
(16) Arabian Summer ($10.00)
Money has come for Arabian Summer, who we are including in our Oakleigh Plate tips. She is a smart filly on the rise, who only needs luck from the draw to win.
(17) Espionage ($14.00)
He is likely to sit on the pace from the Waterhouse/Bott stable. An easy winner at Randwick last start, so he’s a live chance.
