Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) El Vencedor (Best Bet – $1.95)
El Vencedor has gone to another level this campaign after posting three consecutive wins at the top level.
The six-year-old owns four wins from five starts at Ellerslie, and he likes to roll forward and he’s awfully tough to run down.
We’re happy with $1.95 for the favourite, who is the best horse in the field.
(2) Whangaehu (Best Roughie – $14.00)
He has been in excellent form this season, including a win two back at Trentham and a placing last time out behind El Vencedor.
We believe he’s good enough to repeat that effort, so getting $14 to win and $2.75 to place is a fair price from bookmakers.
(3) Meaningful Star ($35.00)
His form earlier this preparation was solid enough with back-to-back wins, but his recent efforts for ninth aren’t great form guides.
He’s likely to struggle to keep up with the Group 1 field.
(4) Wolfgang ($27.00)
He won the Wellington Cup two starts back before finishing second at Matamata last start. He’s a smart type on his day but this is a different race.
We expect him to struggle to keep up with the pace of the race.
(5) Midnight Blue ($27.00)
A lack of recent winning form is concerning and we think he should be aimed at something a touch easier than the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes.
Without a win or placing at Ellerslie, we can’t recommend him.
(6) La Crique (Best Each Way – $5.50)
La Crique is all class and she’s good enough to beat the favourite. She finished second behind El Vencedor at Te Rapa last start, which followed a placing behind Snazzytavi.
It’s excellent form for a runner paying $5.50, and she only needs a touch of luck to win.
(7) Orchestral ($3.40)
Her best form has come in age-group races, but we’re not leaving her out. She ran third in a similar race last start, and there is good market confidence.
We wouldn’t have rated her at $3.40, considering she’s yet to win out of age-group grade, but she’s clearly talented.
(8) Qali Al Farrasha ($18.00)
The four-year-old mare won well fresh up before threatening to win with four consecutive second placings.
The $18 odds are better than expected, so she’s worth including in selections.
