gobet new zealand racing tips

We have expert betting tips for the New Zealand racing cards this Saturday at Te Rapa and Wanganui.

There is always great value at the NZ horse racing meetings, and we have our best bets across the two cards.

Te Rapa racing tips

Race 1. (9:08) Waikato/BOP Owners Maiden Hurdle (2800m)

#2 – Sir Maverick @ $3.00

Sir Maverick has yet to win from four attempts over the jumps, but he comes off a tidy second placing behind Catch and Release.

The John Wheeler-trained four-year-old didn’t win a race on the flat, but if any stable knows how to get them ready over jumps, it’s the Wheeler stable.

We’re taking the $3 odds before money comes for him.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (9:41) Fairview Motors Waikato Hurdle (3200m)

#5 – Verry Flash @ $3.70

Verry Flash went to war with Billy Boy last week, which should have him fit and ready to fire in the Waikato Hurdle.

The Kevin Myers-trained son of Zed owns four wins and three placings from nine starts over jumps, and his flat speed is better than most in this race.

Getting $3.70 is a good price from bookmakers, so put him on top.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 3. (10:18) Bayleys Country Sprint (1200m)

#3 – Twain @ $1.95

Twain is the form runner of the field with five wins from eight starts, including a fresh up win at Te Rapa in heavy conditions.

The John Bell-trained four-year-old won by 1.3 lengths as a $1.20 shot, so punters get better odds on Saturday, and dropping to 55kg is ideal.

It’s not an easy field, but he has more upside than most.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 4. (10:50) Andrew Leadbeater Memorial Maiden (1400m)

#8 – Ascension @ $3.20

Ascension showed good improvement when running third at Te Rapa, and it won’t take her long to win a race.

She is bred to win a few races over the winter months, and the daughter of Almanzor meets an even maiden field here.

Having Michael McNab in the saddle adds to our confidence levels.

Stake: 2 Units

Wanganui racing tips

Race 1. (10:00) Manawatu Civil Maiden (1340m)

#6 – Charm Zafarm @ $5.50

It’s an even betting field in the opener, but Charm Zafarm should give punters a good sight.

The four-year-old mare is overdue a win after six placings from 16 starts, and getting 3kg off her back could be enough to turn the tide.

Luck isn’t needed from out wide because they’ll likely be looking to get wide in the straight.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (10:35) Hirepool 3YO (1340m)

#1 – Ma Te Wa @ $2.10

Seeking consecutive wins is Ma Te Wa, who won at Wanganui by 4.5 lengths to easily exit maiden grades last time out.

The Robbie Patterson stable is firing this season, and they could add another win with the $2.10 favourite, who could be much shorter.

4kg comes off his back, which makes him a weighting special.

Stake: 4 Units

Race 3. (11:10) UDC Finance BM65 (1340m)

#3 – Shawshank @ $7.00

Each-way value is with Shawshank, who owns two placings from three fresh up starts.

The Myers-trained five-year-old won at Wanganui two starts back in heavy conditions, and he’s good enough to repeat that effort.

That win came over this distance, so the stats are in his favour.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (11:50) AB Equipment BM75 (1200m)

#4 – Magawa @ $5.00

Magawa showed his credentials on heavy tracks when winning at Wanganui last start, and the talent has always been there.

The former northern-based runner transferred to Matt Dixon’s stables, and his form has improved, so punters should include him in picks.

All three career wins have come on heavy tracks, so the conditions are ideal.

Stake: 1.5 Units
