There is plenty of value available with bookmakers at the Friday meetings and we have our best bets across the New South Wales card.
Muswellbrook racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:10) 7 Your Home of Horse Racing 2YO (1000m)
#1 – Telling @ $1.55
Telling runs at short odds in the opening race following a sixth behind Within the Law and Cobra Club, which is tidy 2YO form.
The Peter Snowden-trained colt is bred to be quick, and although it’s not easy to take $1.55, he’s worth including in multis.
We can’t see any runner in this field giving him much of a fright.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 2. (13:50) Muswellbrook Golf Club BM58 (1200m)
#6 – The Great Armada @ $6.50
Looking to post consecutive wins is The Great Armada, who won at Coonamble by 2.3 lengths as a $15 chance last start.
The four-year-old son of Merchant Navy owns four wins from 19 starts, so he knows how to get the job done, and he can handle this field.
Getting 3kg off his makes him a betting proposition.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (14:25) Rosevale Angus Maiden (1280m)
#6 – Sheriff’s Star @ $2.30
Sherrif’s Star should have won a race by now, but he’s good enough to bounce back following a disappointing run at Goulburn.
The three-year-old son of Zoustar placed at Canberra and Wyong before the miss, and something close to those runs is good enough.
Barrier two is ideal and this is his best chance to exit maidens.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 4. (15:05) Denbrook Thoroughbreds C2 (1000m)
#6 – Merchant Gold @ $4.20
Merchant Gold won well on debut at Gold Coast before adding placings at Newcastle, Scone, and Eagle Farm.
The well-travelled son of Merchant Navy is fit and ready to fire, and we thought his odds would have been slightly shorter.
Take the $4.20 before money comes for him late.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 5. (15:40) Tab Country Magic C3 (1450m)
#3 – Syrian Star @ $7.50
Syrian Star will need some luck from a wide barrier, but we’re happy to stick with the five-year-old mare.
She will likely get back in the run and hit the line powerfully, as she did when running seventh at Dubbo, and she has since been primed with a trial win.
Given the each-way odds, she’s well worth including.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (16:20) BHP Mt Arthur Wayne Harris Handicap (1280m)
#10 – Puerto Banus @ $4.20
Puerto Banus looked good winning consecutive races earlier this preparation and he’s good enough to get back to winning form.
The three-year-old son of Saxon Warrior has yet to finish worse than third from three attempts at Muswellbrook, which is an excellent record.
55kg on his back and punters get odds worth taking.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (16:55) Big Dance Eligibility Muswellbrook Gold Cup (1500m)
#1 – West of Africa @ $6.50
West of Africa has been around some smart types this season, including a win at Gold Coast in January.
The five-year-old son of Not a Single Doubt owns six wins from 22 starts, and although he’s yet to race at Muswellbrook, it’s a track that should suit.
We’re happy to include him in picks to win the Cup at the current price.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 8. (17:35) Horsepower Skelletar Sprint (1000m)
#1 – Celui @ $3.00
Class is with Celui, who will need to show his electric speed from barrier 16, but he’s good enough to towel this field.
The four-year-old own four races early in his career before rising to tough opposition in Victoria, but he has since been primed with a trial win at Rosehill.
That came over Libertad, so he should be tough to hold out with luck.
Stake: 3 Units
