We have expert betting tips for racing at Morphettville on Saturday, which includes nine races on the Group 1 card.
It’s a good day for racing in South Australia, and we have betting tips for every race on the South Australian card.
Morphettville racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:17) Skycity Handicap (1800m)
#10 – Navy Gold @ $4.20
Navy Gold comes off consecutive second placings at Balaklava and Morphettville, which is a good form guide.
The four-year-old son of U S Navy Flag owns four wins from 15 starts overall, so we’re not surprised by the money coming for him.
He’s always around the mark, so back him in the opener.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 2. (12:42) Carbine Club of Australia BM64 (1050m)
#1 – Sir Now @ $3.90
Sir Now must carry a big weight, but as a three-time winner, he’s the class runner in the field.
The three-year-old son of Sir Prancelot won well two back at Morphettville as a $1.65 chance, so the $3.90 odds are much better.
Getting the inside draw adds to our confidence.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 3. (13:27) David Coles AM Stakes (1200m)
#3 – Millennium Blade @ $4.80
It’s not an easy race to make your debut, but Millennium Blade looked good at the jumpouts.
The two-year-old colt by Too Darn Hot scored a jumpout win, and there has been solid money for him once markets opened.
He’s meeting race winners, but punters should back him with confidence.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 4. (14:02) Thomas Farms Centaurea Stakes (2017m)
#5 – She’s a Hustler @ $2.00
We’re not surprised by the odds for She’s a Hustler, who came from New Zealand and has since dominated.
She won all three starts this preparation with wins at Pakenham and Sandown, and she has yet to finish worse than second in six starts.
55.5kg is ideal, and the $2 odds are generous.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 5. (14:37) Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic (2500m)
#5 – Litzdeel @ $5.00
Litzdeel looks ready to win after placing at Caulfield and Flemington, and running second behind American Wolf is a good form guide.
The three-year-old filly by Dundeel is bred to be a handy staying filly, and she’s much better than a one-win type.
Take the $5 odds as a fair each-way price from bookmakers.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 6. (15:12) Hahn Cummings Stakes (1600m)
#7 – Nonconformist @ $4.60
Nonconformist goes well fresh up with eight starts for a win and four placings, so he could hit the ground running this prep.
The Graeme Begg-trained runner has yet to race at Morphettville, but it’s a track that should suit his racing pattern.
55kg on his back is much lighter than usual, so include him in horse racing picks.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 7. (15:52) Proud Miss Stakes (1200m)
#5 – New York Lustre @ $4.40
It’s hard to look past winning form and that’s what New York Lustre brings to the table with five on the bounce.
The five-year-old mare resumed with a win at The Valley, and she loves to stretch out her neck and power to the line.
It’s a field packed with good sprinting types, but she’s the best of them.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 8. (16:30) The Goodwood (1200m) – GROUP 1
Read our full The Goodwood preview here – including best bets, trifecta and first four picks!
Race 9. (17:05) Grand Syndicates BM68 (1200m)
#2 – Great Maximus @ $5.00
Great Maximus didn’t fire fresh up at Oakbank, but his second-up form includes a win, so he’s worth backing.
The son of Magnus owns four wins from 10 starts, including a win at Morphettville to end last preparation.
Getting the inside draw with 2kg off his back makes him a worthwhile bet.
Stake: 1 Unit
