Might and Power Stakes Form Guide & Tips

(1) Mr Brightside (Best Bet – $1.50)

Punters must take short odds for Mr Brightside, but he’s clearly the best horse in the Group 1 field.

He was brilliant in running down Pride with Jenni two back before getting too far back in the run at The Valley last time out.

That form is excellent, and he’ll be an anchor in many horse racing multis on Saturday.

(2) Vow and Declare ($21.00)

The former Melbourne Cup winner has been running well enough this year, including a win three back. However, winning this race will be tough.

He has been backed in from an opening quote of $27.00, but a fourth placing is the best we expect him to run as he prepares for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

(3) Kalapour ($41.00)

He is better for two runs back from a spell, but we can’t see him running well enough to test this Group 1 field.

We would prefer to see him over 2400-3200m, and he would need to find his very best form just to figure in the finish.

(4) Adelaide River ($20.00)

The former Irish runner ran well for fourth fresh up at Randwick before failing to fire in the Kingston Town.

We’re prepared to give him another chance in what should be a completely different race, and Kris Lees often gets them ready to fire.

He could boost payouts at nice odds.

(5) Atishu (Best Each Way – $5.00)

Atishu has the best turn-of-foot in the race besides Mr Brightside, so the Chris Waller-trained mare must be included at each-way odds.

She is better with recent racing under her belt, and she does much of her best racing during the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Having James McDonald riding helps her chances.

(6) Deny Knowledge (Best Roughie – $11.00)

Deny Knowledge won well two back at Grafton before finishing fifth at Caulfield behind Buckaroo.

It was a pass mark for the seven-year-old import, who has enough ability to run into the minors and pay handsome double-figure odds.

Mark Zahra is a capable rider, and she could look a winning chance at some stage.

(7) Jennilala ($20.00)

She is a tough runner to line up at the top level, but we’re inclined to leave her out of selections at $20.00.

There is ability, as her record suggests, but her best form has come at slightly lower levels, and she’s taking on a hot field.

(8) Coco Sun ($14.00)

We don’t know if her win three back stacks up well form wise, but there has been solid betting support for her.

She comes off a sixth behind Buckaroo, which was needed for her fitness levels, but we need to see more from her to recommend backing at this level.
