Kingsford Smith Cup Form Guide & Tips

(1) Giga Kick (Best Each Way – $5.00)

Giga Kick is a supremely talented sprinter who won The Everest, and although his recent form includes no wins, it’s only a matter of time.

He owns seven wins and five placings from 16 starts, and he runs his best races with a bit of moisture in the surface.

Take the each-way odds available.

(3) Rothfire ($20.00)

A late entrant into the race, and although he did well to finish second last start, we can’t see him running well enough to go close.

(4) Golden Mile ($35.00)

Money has come for Golden Mile, who opened at $46, but we can’t include him in our picks at the odds.

He needs luck from a wide barrier, and he’s better suited to a different race.

(5) Zarastro ($31.00)

Zarastro rises in class for this race, and although he’s a smart type on his day, we don’t think he’s up to this level.

That’s reflected in Kingsford Smith Cup betting markets.

(6) Payline (Best Roughie – $23.00)

Payline flew home to finish third in the Doomben 10,000, and he would have won with another stride.

He’s not the best horse in the race, but his effort last time out was good enough to recommend for this Group 1 race.

Take the $23 odds available with bookmakers.

(7) Libertad ($41.00)

He won well two back at Eagle Farm before running seventh behind Sunshine in Paris last time out.

He’s an enigmatic type, and because of that, we can’t include him in picks.

(8) Rise at Dawn ($18.00)

Boasting eight wins from 15 starts is Rise at Dawn, could run in the minor money at value odds.

The four-year-old son of Almanzor is a two-time winner on soft tracks, and he comes off a trial win at Caulfield, which bodes well.

(9) Democracy Manifest ($46.00)

His form tapered off at the end of his last preparation, and we can’t see him running well enough to cope with the pressure.

(10) Joliestar (Best Bet – $2.80)

Chris Waller lines up the four-year-old mare, who won well at Flemington at Group 1 level earlier this preparation.

She comes off a second placing at Randwick behind Jimmysstar, and a repeat of that effort is enough to win the Kingford Smith Cup.

(11) Kimochi ($12.00)

She pulled up lame in the All Aged Stakes, which is a concern. She is good at her best, but she is a risk based on her last run.

We’re choosing to include her out of our picks on this occasion.

(12) Benedetta ($7.50)

Benedetta has been backed and beaten a few times this season, and money has come for her again.

She runs her best races when she goes to the front and holds them off, so we’re hoping to see a change in tactics.

$7.50 is a fair price from bookmakers.

(13) Bosustow ($8.50)

He won by six lengths at Gold Coast last time out, but this is a sizable rise in class. The odds are a touch short for our liking.
