The three-year-old gelding by Highland Reel ran well in two subsequent runs, finishing fourth at Kyneton and Werribee.

Getting the inside draw is enough to take him close.

#4 – Fortyfour Magnum @ $3.40

Fortyfour Magnum showed nothing on debut at Hobart but her form since has been solid enough at Terang and Warrnambool.

The three-year-old daughter of Magnus ran second behind a nice enough type at Terang, and that form has been franked in the city.

Money has come for her, which is a good sign.

Race 3. (14:00) MC Security Maiden (1200m)

Short odds are with Brutalina, who owns two second placings from three career starts for the Price/Kent stable.

The three-year-old daughter of Brutal was only a nose behind Sudden Change last start, and that’s an excellent form guide for maiden racing.

Each-way value is with Brutalrule, who hasn’t been too far away during his first preparation, and having those runs under his belt helps.

The three-year-old ran second on debut in December and he has been kept in work for another four runs during his first preparation. That’s unusual, but he’s clearly running well enough.

Race 5. (15:00) CM Build Group BM64 (1600m)

#1 – Lightning Express @ $3.10

Lightning Express is better for two runs this preparation, and the former Singapore runner should appreciate the fitness.

The five-year-old won four times in Singapore, and his runs at Echuca and Bendigo were solid enough to warrant attention.

Money has come for him despite carrying 62.5kg, as he’s the class runner.

Race 6. (15:30) Probus Association of Victoria BM58 (2000m)

#2 – Hawkins @ $4.00

Hawkins showed good improvement to finish third at Kyneton last start, and we’re not surprised by money coming for him.

The son of Dundeel is bred to enjoy the rise to 2000m, and it’s not an overly strong field, so he could take advantage.

Looking for consecutive wins is Vain Champagne, who broke maidens with an effortless 2.8-length win at Kilmore.

The three-year-old filly by Magnus opened at $4.80, which was a generous price, before being backed down to $2.80.

It’s still a good price, so include her in picks.

#2 – Deadly Press @ $4.20

Money has come for Deadly Press, who ran second fresh up at Warrnambool, and he’s a past second-up winer.

He owns two wins and five placings from 18 starts overall, and he looked good when flashing home from the tail of the field in his latest.
