Karaka Millions 2YO Form Guide & Tips
(1) Landlock ($31.00)
Drawing barrier 14 doesn’t make it tough for Landlock, hence the long odds. We can’t have him in our picks.
(2) Toretto ($12.00)
Toretto finished fourth behind Too Sweet last time out, but he’s good enough to figure in the finish off the inside draw.
Punters get value odds for a runner that can sit on the speed and kick well, and that’s a good tactic to have in the Karaka Million 2YO.
(3) To Bravery Born (Best Bet – $2.90)
The clear front runner in this race is To Bravery Born, who won at Wanganui on debut before winning comfortably at Ellerslie.
He won by 1.3 lengths at Ellerslie and having Blake Shinn riding helps, despite Shinn not having success last time to Auckland.
Getting $2.90 is a fair price from bookmakers, so put him on top.
(4) Vega for Luck ($19.00)
The colt won well on debut before being held behind some nice types. The ability is there, but he would need to find a few lengths to cope with this field.
(5) Hello Romeo (Best Each Way – $13.00)
The Australian interest is with Hello Romeo, who ran second on debut at Bendigo before winning at Bendigo by 1.8 lengths.
He didn’t fire last time out but Australian opposition is often stronger than in New Zealand, so we’re happy to include him in our picks.
(6) Romanoff ($41.00)
Consistency isn’t with Romanoff, who won at Otaki but he finished seventh easier said of that.
We can’t include him in our picks based on those runs.
(7) Daylight Robbery ($19.00)
The colt by Super Seth went down fighting to To Bravery Born last start, and he shouldn’t be overlooked as a first four chance.
There is no reason why he can’t fight out the finish, and having a strong rider in Warren Kennedy in the saddle adds to his appeal.
(8) In the Air ($41.00)
He comes off a win but that came in a maiden race, and this is a massive rise in class. He shouldn’t be quick enough to keep up.
(9) Too Sweet (Best Each Way – $6.00)
Too Sweet showed her toughness when winning at Ellerslie last time out, and she’s good enough to handle the boys.
It was her second win from three starts, so she’s getting the job done and we can’t leave her out of our Karaka Million 2YO picks.
(10) La Dorado ($6.00)
Money has come for La Dorado, who finished second behind Too Sweet. She had every chance to run her down, but it was still a fine effort in defeat.
We expect more money to come for her, and she’s a trifecta and first four hope.
(11) Abbakiss ($31.00)
She fought bravely behind To Cap It All at Trentham last start, but we don’t see that being the best form for this race.
The $31.00 odds reflect her chances of winning.
(12) Sierra Leone ($8.00)
The filly by Sun City has yet to win from three starts, but she has placed behind Remala, Return to Conquer, and Cool Aza Rene.
That’s solid enough form, which is why she is being respected in betting markets at $8.00. Barrier four is ideal and George Rooke is riding well.
(13) Miss Ziggy ($31.00)
No winning form to speak of and she hasn’t been close enough to warrant attention at the odds.
(14) Belle du Monde ($13.00)
Te Akau has a mortgage on this race and their second-stringer could be good enough to figure in the finish.
She owns two second placings from two starts behind Remala and Storm Front, and something similar could see her go close.
(15) Dare to Proisir ($9.50)
Another Te Akau runner who has been close without winning, but we rate Belle du Monde’s form slightly better.
Therefore, we’re happy to leave her out of our picks in a tough race.
