J.J. Atkins Form Guide & Tips
(1) Cool Archie (Best Bet – $3.40)
The favourite has made every post a winner this preparation, scoring four consecutive wins, including last start at Eagle Farm.
He’s running the best of any runner in the field, and although there is more depth to it, we’re putting him on top.
(2) Grafterburners (Best Each Way – $7.50)
The colt didn’t fully handle the heavy conditions two weeks ago at Eagle Farm, so the improved conditions should be right up his alley.
His form prior is good enough to recommend, and Craig Williams is riding well during the Brisbane Winter Carnival
(3) Farnicle ($10.00)
He didn’t get all favours in the run last start, so we’re not leaving him out of picks at double-figure odds.
He’s bred to be better than average, and being from the Waterhouse/Bott stable, punters know he’ll head forward and look to lead throughout.
(4) Call Da Vinci ($34.00)
There is nothing wrong with his form, but we question his ability to handle Group 1 racing. Therefore, we’re leaving him out, but stick with him for future racing.
(5) Torque to Be Sure (Best Roughie – $20.00)
The odds for Torque to Be Sure are generous, and although he has yet to win from five starts, he has been close to them.
With the right run in transit, he could finish over the top of them and pay a handsome price.
(6) Aerodrome ($13.00)
He started his career with wins at Warwick Farm and Hawkesbury before finishing seventh behind Cool Archie last start.
The track was too wet, but based on that run, we’re going to have to leave him out.
(7) Thee Creek ($91.00)
He owns two wins from his last three starts, but we’re not including him in J.J. Atkins picks. He would need to find a couple of lengths minimum.
(8) Hidden Achievement ($6.00)
Money has come for Hidden Achievement, who won at Gosford before placing at Rosehill behind Zebra Finch.
We’re not sure if that’s the best form guide for this race, but the McDonald/Waller combination can’t be overlooked, especially when the money has come.
(9) Zebra Finch ($15.00)
Got the better of Hidden Achievement last start. If we’re including him, we must include Zebra Finch, so we’re putting him in first four picks.
He’s a strong colt from the powerful Godolphin stable, and Cummings would love another Group 1 before leaving for Hong Kong.
(10) Navy Pilot ($9.00)
He ran third behind Sunrays last week, and we liked the way he hit the line. We’re not thrilled by the $9 odds, but he can’t be left out.
(11) Zoutanium ($31.00)
A solid start to his racing career. However, he has been racing in easier races, so he will wait for him to run in an easier race.
(12) Regulated Affair ($31.00)
Running fourth at Randwick behind Agarwood is a solid form guide. He’s a sneaky first four chance, but because the field is so deep and he’s drawn wide, we’re leaving him out.
(13) The Bear ($101.00)
Not running well and we can’t see him getting close at any stage.
(14) Meet George ($151.00)
A recent winner, but he needs to lift on his most recent effort. Massive odds available for a reason.
(15) Mortal Halo ($101.00)
Yet to win and we can’t see that changing at big odds.
(16) Providence ($11.00)
Well-backed last start when running fourth behind Sunrays. We liked the way he hit the line, so he goes into the mix, especially from this stable.
(17) Sweet Pretender ($126.00)
Seeking consecutive wins but it’s unlikely to happen.
