Hong Kong Vase Form Guide & Tips
(1) Los Angeles ($26.00)
He ran last of 17 runners in the Arc de Triomphe, and although we rate that race as a good form guide, he tailed off the field.
(2) Al Riffa (Best Each Way – $4.60)
His effort to run seventh in the Melbourne Cup was respectable given the weight. He was all but weighted out of the race, but this is a different story.
He is strong enough to carry 57kg to victory, and we’re happy to include him in our Hong Kong Vase picks at each-way odds.
(3) Giavellotto (Best Bet – $3.20)
We’re backing the defending champion to go back-to-back. He was simply brilliant in 2024, and he comes off a tidy performance at Longchamp for fourth.
It would take a brave punter to leave him out of picks, and he should be clearly on top.
(4) Goliath ($17.00)
Not always the most consistent type going around, and he didn’t show much last time out. We can’t have him in our picks.
(5) Sosie ($3.50)
Third in the Arc, finishing ahead of our top pick. That form should stack up nicely in this race, and the four-year-old has more upside than most.
He has six wins and four placings from 12 starts, so he’s supremely consistent, and Andre Fabre knows how to train winners at the big meetings.
We’re not leaving him out of our picks.
(6) Urban Chic ($5.50)
It’s never wise to rule out Japanese runners, so we’re not going to. He comes off a fifth in the Tenno Sho, which is one of the biggest races in Asia.
That form was franked in the Japan Cup recently, so getting $5.50 for a well-performed runner is good shopping.
(7) Ensued ($81.00)
A local runner who would need to find a few lengths to finish close. We can’t see him running well enough to cope with the pressure.
(8) Eydon ($26.00)
Solid enough European form this season, but it hasn’t come at high levels. That’s the big question surrounding him, and we expect him to struggle.
(9) Moments in Time ($101.00)
He runs at big odds and we’re not surprised. Poor at Sha Tin last start, and not even Hugh Bowman could make a difference here.
(10) Bundle Award (Best Roughie – $16.00)
He owns seven wins from 18 starts, and he was only four lengths behind Romantic Warrior last time out.
If they go quickly up front, he could finish well, and the local runner is worth including in picks to boost payouts.
(11) Ka Ying Generation ($31.00)
He ran very well for third behind Romantic Warrior, but that was an anomaly. We can’t see him reproduce that effort on Sunday.
