Hong Kong Vase Form Guide & Tips
(1) Without a Fight (Best Bet – $4.50)
The 2023 Melbourne Cup winner resumed with an excellent third placing and he is the clear top pick for the Hong Kong Vase.
He gets all favours off the inside draw with Mark Zahra riding, and punters should snap up the each-way odds available.
(2) Giavellotto ($7.00)
Third at Curragh last time out and it has form in some of the world’s biggest staying races, including running fifth in the Dubai Gold Cup.
He’s a nice staying type and we’re not leaving him out of our selections.
(3) Luxembourg ($9.00)
Disappointing recent form but it’s tough to rule out a runner with Ryan Moore in the saddle and from the Aidan O’Brien stable.
Betting suggests he’ll be right around the mark, so we’re happy to include him in first four selections.
(4) Dubai Honour (Best Each Way – $7.00)
Second in an easy race at Newcastle last time out but it was just getting the miles under its belt.
The Grand Prix Saint-Cloud winner has class on his side, and the William Haggas-trained gelding should go close on Sunday.
Take the odds available as they could shorten on race day.
(5) Iresine ($15.00)
Liked his fresh up win but we don’t know if that’s the best form guide for the Hong Kong Vase.
15 wins from 24 starts is tough to overlook but others might have more class on their side.
(6) Marquisat (Best Roughie – $10.00)
Better for two runs under his belt this preparation and he’s a nice four-year-old type from the Andre Fabre stable.
He might have been beaten by Iresine in 2023, but he has improved since and the sky is the limit for our best roughie.
(7) Pradaria ($12.00)
A sparingly-raced Japanese runner that hasn’t been missed in betting markets, but we’re going to leave him out of our picks.
Winning this race fresh up isn’t easy, and his recent form hasn’t been good enough.
(8) Five G Patch ($31.00)
A local runner who could need to improve significantly on his most recent form. He’s not good enough to beat this field.
(9) Continuous ($26.00)
Worrying recent signs for the four-year-old, who failed to fire at Longchamp and Ascot.
He beat only one runner home in both starts, and although he’s a Group 1 winner in Europe, we can’t see him winning on Sunday.
(10) La City Blanche ($71.00)
A handy second placing two back but that came in much lower levels. A local that should struggle in this company.
(11) Ka Ying Generation ($26.00)
Second behind Romanic Warrior last time out but rising in distance might not help his chances, hence the odds.
(12) Ensued ($26.00)
Having James McDonald riding helps but we haven’t seen enough from him at the top level to warrant inclusion.
He won well two back but that didn’t come at this level.
(13) Stellenbosch ($5.00)
The three-year-old filly from Japan has excellent form and we’re not leaving her out of selections at each-way odds.
They are bred tough in Japan and Joao Moreira returns to Hong Kong to enjoy the spoils.
