Hong Kong Mile Form Guide & Tips
(1) Soul Rush (Best Bet – $5.00)
He comes off a top win in Japan and we’re not surprised by the betting support coming for him throughout the week.
With eight wins from 22 starts and Joao Moreira in the saddle, he’s tough to bet against in one of the more even Hong Kong Mile’s in recent history.
(2) Voyage Bubble ($5.00)
He got back to winning form in the Jockey Club Mile when beating Galaxy Patch, and that should be a good form guide.
Barrier five is ideal and having James McDonald riding helps, so we’re not leaving him out of our picks as a top local chance.
(3) Antino (Best Each Way -$5.50)
The Australian owns 11 wins from 22 starts and he was simply brilliant when winning at Caulfield in the Toorak.
Finishing a half-length behind Mr Brightside last start is a good form guide, so we’re not leaving him out of selections.
(4) Beauty Eternal ($21.00)
He hasn’t run well in two starts back from a spell, and although betting against Zac Purton isn’t easy, we’re not including him.
He would need a lot of luck from barrier 11 as well.
(5) Beauty Joy ($26.00)
He’s another runner who needs luck from the wide draw. His form this season has been fair without being brilliant.
We can’t see him figuring in the finish at odds.
(6) Galaxy Patch ($7.00)
The five-year-old has a great record of eight wins from 15 starts, and he wasn’t too far behind Voyage Bubble last time out.
Barrier 14 hurts, but if he gets luck from a wide draw, he should be right in the thick of the finish at each-way odds.
(7) Docklands ($15.00)
We haven’t been impressed with Dockland’s form in Australia and we don’t think he’s good enough to compete at this level.
An inside barrier is ideal but he gets back in his races, so the draw becomes irrelevant.
(8) Happy Together ($51.00)
He would need to lift a few lengths to beat this field, which is why his odds are high. We can’t see him getting close enough.
(9) Red Lion ($101.00)
He’s better than what he has shown in two starts this preparation, but as the odds suggest, this isn’t the time to see improvement in form.
(10) Changcheng Glory ($17.00)
He’s looking to cap off three consecutive placings with a win and getting the inside barrier could get it done.
We think he needs to find a length or two to win, but he could settle handy and battle on over the final 200m. He’s a first four chance.
(11) Taj Dragon ($101.00)
The Irish-bred runner is going well enough this season to figure in the finish at Group 1 level.
(12) Jantar Mantar ($7.50)
Boasting four wins from six starts, Jantar Mantar is a solid winning chance as a three-year-old colt.
He won the Mile Cup at Tokyo last time out and a repeat of that effort is good enough to see him test runners in this field.
We’re including him in trifecta and first four picks.
(13) Lazzat ($7.00)
He ran second in the Golden Eagle and he arguably should have won. He’s a good French runner with plenty of upside, so he can’t be underestimated.
Getting $7.00 is a fair price from bookmakers is a fair guide to his chances of winning.
(14) Ramadan (Best Roughie – $26.00)
The colt by Le Havre won twice last preparation at Deauville and Longchamp, including the Group 2 Wildenstein.
It’s tough to know if that form will measure up in the Hong Kong Mile, but we’re prepared to take the risk at the odds.
