Hong Kong Derby Form Guide & Tips

(1) Little Paradise (Best Bet – $4.50)

He blew the start last time out and over-raced, but still managed to flash home late for eighth. It was a superb effort in defeat, and he could turn that effort around.

The $4.50 odds are good for a quality type with bounce back qualities.

(2) Numbers (Best Each Way – $4.00)

Another unlucky runner last time out. He did a stack of work on the speed, and those who took him on finished well down the track.

He would love a more economical run, and if that comes, he should be tough to run down.

(3) Stormy Grove ($5.50)

Things panned out well for him in the Hong Kong Classic Cup, but it was still a good win. He’s running well this season, so we’re not leaving him out.

(4) Sagacious Life ($26.00)

He didn’t fire in a similar race last time out, and we can’t see him turning that around, hence the drifting odds.

(5) Invincible Ibis ($7.50)

Second behind Storm Grove in the main lead-up race, and it was a tough effort. He’s another runner that should be right around the mark.

Hugh Bowman riding from barrier three is another positive.

(6) Patch of Cosmo ($9.00)

Ran well for third in the Classic Cup as a $25 chance. We’re unsure if he can replicate that effort, so at the odds, we’re happy to leave him out.

(7) Beauty Bolt ($31.00)

He was showing consistent form behind running seventh last start, but he could get back to his best.

We rate him better than a $31 chance, so he’s included in first four picks.

(8) Emblazon ($26.00)

Shooting for his fifth straight win, but this is a sizable rise in class. We don’t think he’s up to Group 1 level just yet.

(9) Top Dragon (Best Roughie – $17.00)

Fifth behind Little Paradise two starts back before placing last time out. He’s consistent enough to include, especially off the inside draw.

(10) Regal Gem ($51.00)

Never too far away from the prize, but this level of racing could be too much for him.

(11) Juneau Pride ($41.00)

Second behind Emblazon last time out. He would need to find 3-4 lengths on that effort to beat this field.

(12) Dazzling Fit ($17.00)

A first-four chance if things go his way. Fifth in the Classic Cup, and a repeat of that effort could see him land in the placings.

(13) Seraph Gabriel ($17.00)

Three runs in Hong Kong for one placing and two disappointing efforts. Zac Purton is an interesting booking, which is why he’s $17.

However, based on form alone, we can’t have him in our picks.

(14) Pope Cody ($41.00)

Not running well enough to figure in the finish.

(15) Windlord ($81.00)

He’s at big odds and rightfully so. He would need to find 10 lengths.

(16) Circuit Grand Slam ($151.00)

Should be gone before the home turn.
