Upheaval ran into a smart one on debut in Magnolia Sky, who was a dominant all the way winner, but he was doing his best work late over the 1100m trip.
David Pires sticks and getting out to 1200m suits. Great value to beat the favourite.
Stake: 1 Unit
Sticking with the aforementioned Magnolia Sky who was such an impressive winner here last time out.
Confidence will only increase if (when?) we see Upheaval perform well in the opening race.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Royal Dispatch is building an impressive record, the lightly raced four-year-old having won three times and placed another two from eight career starts, including a last-start second over a similar trip at Launceston.
In form Victorian apprentice Jackson Radley takes off 2Kg.
Stake: 1 Unit
An interstate raider has won the last three editions of the Strutt, and Aurora Rise fits the bill as the best of them this year.
She won her maiden well at Geelong last time and looks like she will relish this trip. Favourably drawn with John Allen up.
Stake: 5 Units
Interstate raider Kiss My Rock looks well placed here. His interstate form is nothing special but nor is this race.
Pat Kearney won’t be sending him across Bass Strait for a holiday and John Allen should give him the gun run from barrier five.
Stake: 1 Unit
Ms Tasmania is really well in under the set weight conditions of this race, her official handicap rating being clearly the highest.
She was a touch disappointing last time out, but in such a suitable race, she is well capable of bouncing back.
Stake: 1 Unit
Local filly Sanniya is building a very impressive record, having won five of her six starts, including her last three straight.
This is a rise in class, but in present form, she looks well capable of making the leap to stakes grade.
Stake: 3 Units
Steparty hasn’t won for more than two years but he has been a prolific placegetter in that time, including two at Group 1 level.
He showed he was back to his best with a sharply improved run at Flemington last start and is capable of upsetting the local contingent here.
Stake: 4 Units
Some of us were skeptical whether Bank Maur could run out the trip over 2200m in the Summer Cup, but he could not have been more dominant, leading all the way.
He has always had the class, and now he has answered the distance question. I’m happy to be with him here again.
Stake: 1 Unit
Sticking with the interstate raiders here in the form of Royal Infantry.
He comes across Bass Strait in excellent form, having won at Camperdown last start, and he really should find this no harder.
Stake: 2 Units
