Gosford racing tips
—
Race 1. (11:15) Gosford It Midway BM72 (1200m)
#2 – Oakfield Badger @ $8.50
Oakfield Badger doesn’t know how to run a bad race, including a win at Wyong earlier this preparation.
The five-year-old son of Exceed and Excel has yet to race at Gosford, but he owns five wins and six placings overall, which is a good record.
It’s not a hard field, so include him in picks for the opener.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (13:50) Ortus Financial Handicap (1200m)
#4 – Green Spaces @ $23.00
Green Spaces is gunning for consecutive wins after scoring at Geelong last start, and that experience can’t be overlooked.
The two-year-old colt by Street Boss showed good fight to hold off the fight, which bodes well for this level of racing.
Rachel King is riding well, and she’s good at riding front runners.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (12:25) Tab Highway C3 (1200m)
#4 – Joiselle @ $4.50
We’re sticking with Joiselle, who showed good form earlier in her career before failing to win at her last five starts.
She started her career with three consecutive wins and the future looked bright, but she can still get back to winning form.
2kg comes off her back, which adds to her appeal.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 4. (13:00) Polvin Fencing Systems BM72 (1600m)
#10 – Hurtsville Zagreb @ $9.00
Looking to remain unbeaten is Hurtsville Zagreb, who won at Goulburn on debut before winning again at Canterbury.
The three-year-old showed a nice turn-of-foot to win both races before missing a run, but he has been primed with a trial effort at Randwick.
55.5kg on his back is ideal, so he’s worth including in a tough field.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 5. (13:35) Tooheys BM78 (2100m)
#14 – Mr Buster @ $6.00
Mr Buster is better than his last two starts reflect, and he wasn’t too far away when fifth at Caulfield behind Dillinger.
The son of Sea the Stars owns a win and five placings from nine starts, so his overall record is good enough to beat this field.
We’re happy to include him in horse racing picks at the odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (14:10) Triple M Thunder Thousand BM78 (1000m)
#5 – Shall Be @ $9.00
Shall Be is already a three-time winner this preparation, so he’s good enough to add to his tally.
The three-year-old son of Shalaa owns four wins from eight starts overall, and his win at Wyong last start is a good form guide.
Barrier 13 hurts, but he could sit on the speed and give a good kick.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 7. (14:45) Guardian Safety Solutions Gosford Gold Cup (2100m)
#12 – Medatsu @ $13.00
We liked the way Medatsu made ground from the back at Wagga last start behind Flying Bandit.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding is talented at his best, and with 53kg on his back, he’s good enough to finish over the top of them.
Punters get double-figure odds, so include him in picks.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 8. (15:20) The Coast (1600m)
#10 – Know Thyself @ $3.90
Gunning for four consecutive wins is Know Thyself, who won the Country Championships before winning at Randwick again last start.
The four-year-old son of The Autumn Sun gets all favours with 53kg on his back, which makes him tough to beat in the $500,000 feature.
$3.90 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 9. (16:00) De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target Stakes (1200m)
#14 – Warnie @ $7.50
We liked Warnie’s form in Melbourne and he’s good enough to enjoy some success in New South Wales.
The son of Highland Reel owns three wins and three placings from eight starts, including a win at his only start over the distance.
Getting in with 53kg makes him one of the best chances to win, and the odds are generous.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 10. (16:40) Railway Hotel Gosford BM78 (1200m)
#10 – Raikkonen @ $2.80
Raikkonen showed good pace when winning at Canterbury and Randwick last preparation before struggling at Eagle Farm.
Not much went right for him behind Give Me Space, and the three-year-old son of Shalaa comes off a trial placing at Warwick Farm.
The $2.80 is worth including in multis on Saturday.
Stake: 2 Units
