George Ryder Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Ceolwulf ($5.50)
Our George Ryder Stakes picks include Ceolwulf, who will appreciate running over the distance and he made solid late ground last start.
He wasn’t far off being the best each-way pick, so include him in all bets.
(2) Tom Kitten (Best Each Way – $7.50)
We loved the way he found the line to beat Mr Brightside in the All-Star Mile, and dropping to 1500m won’t worry him.
He’s as tough as they come and still underrated, but after cashing with him last start, we’re not about to jump off his back.
Punters get value odds for the Godolphin runner.
(3) Royal Patronage ($4.40)
He put away a good field last time out, which is a good form guide. However, he’s yet to win second-up, which is concerning.
We’re including him in picks but we want better odds.
(4) Buckaroo ($26.00)
He hasn’t raced since finishing ninth in the Melbourne Cup and we can’t see him winning over 1500m fresh up.
It would pay to follow him in staying contests later in the autumn, particularly the Sydney Cup.
(5) Gringotts ($8.50)
His form has been mixed recently, including a poor run two back and a placing behind Iowna Merc last time out.
We think he needs to improve on that form to beat this field, so we’re opting to leave him out of selections.
(6) Militarize (Best Roughie – $51.00)
We weren’t surprised to see him struggling last time out but there is good improvement to come at the big odds.
He’s a strong type at his best, so give him another chance to boost first four payouts.
(7) Celestial Legend ($61.00)
He has really gone off the boil since looking like a world beater early. Take on trust, but we can’t include him based on his form.
(8) Kovalica ($67.00)
Fresh up for Chris Waller but he’s merely having a run for future targets, which is often the case with Waller-trained stayers.
(9) Port Lockroy ($67.00)
Three placings from three fresh up starts but those runs haven’t come at Group 1 level. As the odds suggest, he could struggle.
(10) Fangirl (Best Bet – $3.10)
A tough winner fresh up before finishing just behind Via Sistina last start. She avoids the best horse in Australia here, and she could take advantage.
Getting $3.10 is a good price from bookmakers, and she’ll likely firm to around $2.40 on race day.
(11) Stefi Magnetica ($8.50)
Punters have been burned often with Stefi Magnetica and we’re not about to join the club. We don’t think she’s running well enough to cope with this field.
