Futurity Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Mr Brightside (Best Bet – $1.95)
The winner of 18 races and over $16 million was beaten last time out at Caulfield, but he lost no admirers going down narrowly to Another Wil.
It was another strong effort from the favourite, who has finished outside the first two home at Caulfield just once from 10 starts.
He’s an amazing thoroughbred and our top pick.
(2) I Wish I Win (Best Each Way – $4.60)
The former Kiwi didn’t show too much during the autumn, but his recent jumpouts are encouraging, hence the shortening odds.
He ran last in The Everest after missing the jump and never getting into the race, but kicking off over 1400m should suit.
We’re happy with the each-way odds.
(3) Pericles ($13.00)
He is a proven fresh up winner, and although yet to win at Caulfield, he has been close on multiple occasions.
Getting the inside draw is ideal and he’s good enough to finish in the first four.
(4) Tom Kitten ($11.00)
Tom Kitten doesn’t know how to run a bad race, which is why he’s always a popular pick.
Surprisingly, he has never raced at Caulfield and that’s not a good thing. We think he might need a run to show his best against the quality of this field.
(5) Light Infantry Man ($18.00)
Discounting a recent Group 1 winner isn’t always smart, but he’s likely to get back in the run and he could struggle to make up ground.
He would need to find a couple of lengths to beat a few of these.
(6) Pinstriped ($31.00)
We always include Pinstriped in our picks, but we need to muster some courage after a disappointing effort last time out.
He didn’t show his usual turn-of-foot, but we can’t turn down the $31 odds. He could flash home late and run in the minors.
(7) Freedom Rally ($51.00)
We weren’t impressed by his recent effort behind Another Wil, and we think his best chance is heading back to Queensland for the winter carnival.
There has been no interest in his opening odds, which isn’t surprising.
(8) Super Smink ($41.00)
She only battled away for seventh against similar opposition last start. It wasn’t the worst run, but we didn’t see enough from her to include her in our picks.
(9) Place Du Carrousel ($31.00)
She was an extremely expensive purchase from Europe, and she came at the same time as Via Sistina, who has since won the Cox Plate.
Place Du Carrousel has yet to show the same performances, and for that reason, we think she will struggle to show her best down under.
(10) Private Life ($18.00)
He beat a lot of these home when fourth last start, so we’re not going to leave him out of our picks.
The Chris Waller-trained colt has a touch of class about him, and although he can go under the radar, he’s already a Group 1 winner.
(11) Evaporate (Best Roughie – $14.00)
Luck was not in favour of Evaporate at Caulfield behind Angel Capital. He had no luck in traffic, but he should get plenty of room out wide.
He’s heading towards a big race across the Tasman, and we think he’s good enough to measure up with only 55.5kg on his back.
