Fission is a tough runner to back, but he is a profitable bet when he turns up on his best behaviour.

The six-year-old son of Russian Revolution scored an upset win three back at Flemington before placing two back, and punters got value odds in both runs.

It’s the same again here and getting 2kg off his back could take him close.

Rising through the grades in style is Watersports, who has three wins and eight placings from 15 starts, including a last start win at Sandown.

The four-year-old mare by Ocean Park was only a half-length behind the winner in her most recent Flemington run, which bodes well.

Getting in with 55.5kg makes her tough to beat.

Looking to build on two solid efforts last campaign is Blanchland, who is a former European.

The six-year-old is a two-time winner overseas, and he comes off a fourth behind Flamin’ Romans, which should be a good form guide.

A betting push would be a good indication, but he should run well.

The five-year-old son of Toronado got the better of The Black Cloud, so the form checks out, and he’s now a five-time winner over the distance.

Barrier nine is ideal down the straight, so include him in horse racing picks.

#4 – Wintery @ $9.00

Wintery fought bravely behind the talented Alpha Sophie last time out, and that’s the best form guide for this race.

The Aaron Purcell-trained filly won at Pakenham two starts back, and having a Group 3 placing on her record bodes well.

It’s a tough field, but she demands attention.

The five-year-old son of Free Eagle ran under a length behind Cafe Millennium fresh up, and running second was the talented Sabaj.

A strong ride could be enough to get him home in an even race.

Xtra Rush remained unbeaten after four starts when scoring at Caulfield, and he defeated Single Choice, who won last time out.

The Richard Laming-trained gelding has been impressive so far, and although rising to this grade isn’t easy, he hasn’t done anything wrong.
