Race 1. (13:00) Tab We’re On BM84 (2500m)
#5 – Mozu Marcassin @ $6.00
Punters get each-way odds for Mozu Marcassin, who scored three consecutive wins at Pakenham, Swan Hill and Sandown.
His most recent effort was a sixth at Caulfield behind My Brothers Keeper, but that was a blanket finish, and he wasn’t far away.
Barrier two with 54kg makes him tough to beat.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 2. (13:35) The Les Carlyon BM70 (1400m)
#10 – Reina Isabella @ $10.00
Double figure odds are generous for Reina Isabella, who comes off a second placing at Pakenham.
The three-year-old filly owns a win and three placings from five starts, and she has yet to finish worse than second over the distance.
Barrier 15 hurts, but she only needs cover to go close.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (14:10) WGCDR Ian Bayles DFC BM70 (1800m)
#1 – No Fuss @ $3.30
Gunning for four consecutive wins is No Fuss, who kicked away for a 2.3-length win last time out at Sandown.
The former New Zealand runner is going better than we expected in Australia, and he could keep winning at this level.
$3.30 is a fair price, and his odds could continue to firm.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 4. (14:45) Auckland Thoroughbred Racing BM78 (1400m)
#4 – I Am Velvet @ $3.90
It was good to see I Am Velvet back in winning form at Sandown, and although it came midweek, it was one of the better midweek fields we’ve seen.
The three-year-old filly owns four wins from seven starts, and although his only start at Flemington didn’t result in much, she’s better now.
It could pay to take the odds before they firm on race day.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 5. (15:20) Anzac Day Stakes (1400m)
#5 – Stay Cosmic @ $6.00
Stay Cosmic loomed to win last time out at Sandown when going down by a nose, and he’s good enough to bounce back.
The two-year-old showed speed on debut when winning by 1.8 lengths, and there’s nothing wrong with that form at Flemington.
It’s not an easy field but he represents value.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 6. (15:55) VRC St Leger (2800m)
#4 – Format @ $4.20
Quality is with Format, who didn’t handle the heavy conditions at Rosehill behind Pocketing last start.
The three-year-old colt looked better when winning at Kembla Grange by 4.5 lengths over 2400m and rising to 2800m holds no fears.
A bounce back performance is likely, so take the each-way odds.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 7. (16:30) FLT Lt Peter Armytage BM78 (1100m)
#11 – Losesomewinmore @ $6.00
We’re hoping Losesomewinmore wins more on Friday. The gelding didn’t fire at the end of his last preparation, but he might have been tired.
The son of All Too Hard owns three wins and two second placings from five starts, and he’s good enough to beat this field at each-way odds.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see him up and running early this prep.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 8. (17:05) Willian Newton VC BM78 (1400m)
#5 – King Zephyr @ $1.80
Short odds are with King Zephyr, who owns four wins from five starts, including wins in his last three starts.
The four-year-old son of Hallowed Crown won at Pakenham before winning twice at Sandown, including putting away a good field by 2.3 lengths last start.
Take the $1.80 odds and include him in multis before the odds firm.
Stake: 3 Units
