Doomben racing tips

Naval Commission looks to cap off consistent form with a win, and it’s not the strongest field to start the day.
The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding was 1.5 lengths behind the winner last time out at Doomben, and his odds are shorter this time around.
Getting in with 52.5kg makes him tough to beat.
Stake: 1 Unit
Cosmo Centaurus had good betting support last start at Sunshine Coast when running third, and although beaten, he’s worth backing again.
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding looked good when winning fresh up, and his two runs since have had merit.
We’re happy to give him another chance against this field.
Stake: 2 Units
Luck is needed from a wide barrier, but Invahir looked good when winning at Roma last start, which should be a good form guide.
The six-year-old son of Invader is a nine-time winner overall, and he has enough early speed to cross from a wide barrier.
He should be right around the mark in a tough country race.
Stake: 1 Unit
We have backed Yet He Moves quite often, and the Chris Waller-trained gelding never runs a bad race.
He has been a good type to back consistently, and the six-year-old son of Adelaide is a three-time winner at Doomben since making the switch to the Queensland stable.
The big weight hurts, but class takes him close.
Stake: 2 Units
Looking to cap off consecutive second placings is Journalism, who is having his first start at Doomben.
His placings came at Mackay and Rockhampton, and that level of racing should hold up well in this country cups event.
53.5kg gives him every chance to figure in the finish.
Stake: 1 Unit
Itchington didn’t lose any admirers with his debut placing at Doomben as a $2.70 chance, and he is worth another go.
The two-year-old son of Sun City was a betting drifter on that occasion, but he proved the early market expectations to be correct.
We’re putting him on top in what should be an exciting contest.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Ninja looked good before heading out for a spell when posting wins at Kembla Grange and Rosehill.
The three-year-old son of Farnan defeated Without Peer by a nose in BM72 grade last start, and he didn’t fully enjoy the wet conditions.
His recent trial win at Randwick is a good betting guide for this race.
Stake: 2 Units
Tavs keeps winning, and there is no reason to jump off his back after posting wins at Toowoomba and Eagle Farm this preparation.
The five-year-old is better with a longer straight, and he is yet to win at Doomben, but he should be presented at the top of the straight.
He’s too good to leave out of horse racing picks.
Stake: 2 Units
We liked the way Champagne Lane found the line when running fourth at Sunshine Coast, and she could improve on that effort.
The three-year-old filly by Capitalist looked good when winning her first two raceday starts, and something close to that is good enough.
This is a tough race, but she will give punters a good sight.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Gunning for back-to-back wins is John Dory, who scored a good win at Canterbury last time out.
The three-year-old son of Ace High has more upside than most runners in this field and being from the Waller stable helps.
He is a must-include this Saturday.
Stake: 2.5 Units
