Doomben 10,000 Form Guide & Tips
(1) Overpass ($3.90)
Overpass is the drifting favourite and with good reason. He’s the best horse in the race, but he doesn’t enjoy heavy conditions.
He also tired late in The Quokka, and based on those factors, we’re not putting him on top. However, he’s still featured in trifecta and first four picks.
(2) Schwarz (Best Each Way – $6.50)
The four-year-old looks set to rise to another level following a win at The Valley, and he has been primed with two trial wins at Warwick Farm and Randwick.
That form can’t be overlooked, and with four wins at the distance and two in wet conditions, he should be right around the mark.
(3) Mazu (Best Roughie – $13.00)
Mazu loves a wet track, boasting five wins and two placings from nine heavy track starts. That’s tough to overlook, and he comes off a win at Randwick.
The odds are shortening, so take the value while it’s available.
(4) Veight ($41.00)
We have been disappointed with Veight over the last few seasons, and although his fresh up form reads well, we need to see him back to his best before we back him.
(5) Desert Lightning ($41.00)
The former Kiwi hasn’t been too bad since arriving in Australia, but we don’t think he’s quite up to this level of racing now.
A lack of betting support isn’t a good sign.
(6) Rothfire ($31.00)
He has yet to finish worse than second at Doomben, but most of his best form came much earlier in his career before being injured.
He’s never too far away, so he could squeeze into first four picks, but some betting support would be good to see.
(7) Golden Mile ($26.00)
He didn’t fire in one start in heavy conditions, and we can’t see that changing. He ran third behind Libertad last start, which isn’t the best form guide.
(8) Zarastro ($31.00)
The son of I Am Invincible is likely to push forward and attempt to hold them off, but they’ll be coming fast for him.
His heavy track form is no wins or placings from three attempts, so leave him out of Doomben 10,000 predictions.
(9) Libertad ($31.00)
He got back to winning form at Eagle Farm as a $71 chance, which was a massive upset.
It’s hard to know what he’ll produce this time around, but there are better betting opportunities in this race.
(10) Jedibeel ($14.00)
Jedibeel is always threatening to win a big race, and after finishing off hard last start, this could be his time to shine.
He draws well in barrier three, so he should settle closer, and be right there in the finish at odds.
(11) Hidden Wealth ($18.00)
Not much went right for him fresh up, but he might need to lift on his form. He’s unbeaten at Doomben from two starts, but as the odds suggest, he could struggle.
(12) Sunshine in Paris (Best Bet – $4.40)
Working her way to a win is Sunshine in Paris, who ran third behind Jimmysstar in the All-Aged Stakes, which is a good form guide.
She is a top chance to win with James McDonald riding, and this is the time of the year where she typically shines.
(13) Belclare ($41.00)
The former Kiwi doesn’t have good wet track form, which is surprising for an NZ runner. She needs to lift on recent efforts.
(14) Benedetta ($7.50)
Money has come for Benedetta, who has promised to deliver this preparation without getting too much luck.
She owns eight wins from 20 starts, and it would be foolish to leave her out of Doomben 10,000 picks.
(15) Lady Laguna ($31.00)
She owns two wins at Doomben and she has been running well in defeat. However, barrier 16 hurts, and that’s reflected in the market.
(17) Payline ($67.00)
His best form has come against much easier opposition, so we can’t see him figuring in the finish.
