Coonabarabran racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:25) Pursehouse Bakery Maiden (900m)
#1 – Best Defence @ $3.80
Best Defence is better for the fresh up fifth at Moree, and that should be a tidy form guide.
The four-year-old son of National Defense is in good hands with Cody Morgan, and it won’t take him long to win at this level.
Look for money to come for him on race day.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 2. (14:00) Brett Bowman Racing Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Paruna @ $4.50
Paruna hasn’t shown her best form so far, but she has raced at Randwick, Rosehill, and Kembla Grange.
Dropping in class will take her a long way, and her trial form before finishing sixth at Kembla included a win at Scone.
Barrier 16 hurts but she has more upside than most in this field.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 3. (14:35) Barrons Tyre Hotel Baradine C3 (1600m)
#5 – Wanda River @ $3.30
Wanda River owns two wins and eight placings from 13 starts, and we liked his second placing at Coonmable last start.
The five-year-old gelding by Wandjina doesn’t know how to run a bad race, so getting $3.30 is a fair price from bookmakers.
If he gets luck from the draw, he should be tough to beat.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 4. (15:10) Brad Edwards Air Conditioning BM66 (1400m)
#3 – Burraneer Boy @ $4.50
Burraneer Boy won well at Tamworth fresh up before struggling at Mudgee and Kempsey, but he’s better than that.
The five-year-old son of Denman gets Aaron Bullock in the saddle and that helps, so there should be more money come for him.
Take the $4.50 odds as a value price.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 5. (15:45) Coonabarabran Bowling Club C1 (1400m)
#10 – Mrs Bull @ $7.00
Mrs Bull has improved with every run this preparation, including a second placing at Orange last time out.
The five-year-old daughter of Shooting to Win is a seven-time placegetter from eight starts over the distance, and that’s tough to look past.
Carrying 55kg on her back makes her tough to beat.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 6. (16:20) Expo Cup Day Sprint (1100m)
#3 – Jacenza
Jacenza has been threatening to win a race after finishing second at Coonamble last start, and he was ravishing the line.
The five-year-old son of Shooting to Win has yet to race on this track, but he gets all favours off the inside draw.
We expect him to beat this field.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 7. (16:55) Imperial Hotel Coonabarabran Cup (1600m)
#5 – Dances with Hooves @ $2.70
Dances with Hooves comes off a third placing at Newcastle, and considering she has four wins from 10 starts, she’s classy.
The daughter of Reel Steel is unbeaten in three starts with Ashley Morgan riding, so that’s another positive for punters.
Take the $2.70 as it’s a value price for the favourite.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 8. (17:40) Marc Hawkins Electrical C2 (1200m)
#2 – Exonumia @ $4.40
Exonumia looked good last preparation when placing at his last two starts, and he placed at his only start on the track.
The five-year-old son of Frosted owns two wins and nine placings from 16 starts, so he doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
Take the each-way odds available.
Stake: 1.5 Units
