Caulfield Heath racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:25) Get On Extra Maiden (1500m)
#1 – Jillaroo @ $3.30
Jillaroo is set to break maiden grades after a good first campaign in the US, and that form should hold up well in Australia.
Ciaron Maher takes over the training duties now, and his jumpout efforts leading into this race have been good enough.
He gets the inside draw, which adds to his appeal.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 2. (13:00) MRC Foundation Gala Maiden (1000m)
#6 – Prince Tycoon @ $3.80
Prince Tycoon is on debut for the Busuttin/Young stable after winning two jumpouts at Cranbourne, and that’s a good sign.
The two-year-old son of Written Tycoon will need luck from a wide barrier, but he looks to have more natural ability than most in this field.
He’ll likely settle back and work home nicely on the outside.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 3. (13:35) Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives BM64 (1200m)
#6 – Thunder Award @ $3.70
Thunder Award has been around the mark throughout his career, including a win and five placings from 10 starts.
The four-year-old gelding by Shamus Award comes off a fresh up second placing, which followed a trial win at Cranbourne.
It’s not an easy field but he’s good enough to win.
Stake: 1.5Units
Race 4. (14:10) Sportsbet Feed BM70 (1800m)
#1 – Dillinger @ $7.00
Dillinger is firing shots recently with consecutive wins at Ballarat and Caulfield Heath, so having winning form on this track is ideal.
The five-year-old son of Zoustar owns four wins and four placings from 13 starts, and getting the inside draw with 2kg off his back is ideal.
Punters get generous each-way odds from bookmakers.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (14:45) Hyland Race Colours BM70 (1600m)
#2 – Changed Colours @ $2.30
Changed Colours has been threatening to win this preparation after posting another placing at Flemington last time out.
The four-year-old ran second behind Pariah Pearl in a driving finish, and she has winning form at this track, which is a bonus.
We expect her odds to firm on race day, so take the $2.30.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 6. (15:20) More Places BM64 (1200m)
#5 – Legacy Bay @ $5.00
The three-year-old filly by Zoustar owns a win and two placings from five starts, including a second placing at Caulfield Heath.
She ended last prep with two good placings, and getting 3kg off her back on Wednesday only adds to her appeal.
She should be right in the finish, so take the each-way odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 7. (15:55) Quayclean BM64 (1000m)
#2 – Fitzpatrick @ $6.50
Fitzpatrick didn’t do much wrong last preparation when scoring a win at Ballarat and adding placings at Mornington and Caulfield Heath.
The three-year-old son of Snitzel gets all favours from the draw, and we thought his odds would have been around the $4.60 mark.
It’s a tough midweek field but he should be tough to beat.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 8. (16:30) Race Replays BM70 (1000m)
#5 – Grand Larceny @ $5.50
Gunning for three consecutive wins is Grand Larceny, who won at Moonee Valley and Caulfield Heath.
The four-year-old son of Zoustar won a jumpout to prepare for this race, and having Blake Shinn in the saddle only helps his cause.
Money has come for him, which isn’t surprising.
Stake: 1 Unit
