Cambridge Stud Zabeel Classic Form Guide & Tips

(1) Waitak ($2.60)

Waitak was beaten by a narrow margin in the Mufhasa, so he lost no admirers with that performance. We have found better value with El Vencedor, but Waitak should be right in the mix as the race favourite.

(2) El Vencedor (Best Bet – $5.00)

Young Billy Pinn went out too hard last time out when being taken on by a longshot, and El Vencedor was still good enough to only get beaten right on the line.

It was a mammoth performance considering the circumstances, and getting Mick Dee in the saddle is a huge replacement.

Look for him to push forward under his own steam and hold them off at each-way odds.

(3) Kingswood ($6.50)

The Australian raider for Gavin Bedggood is a live chance following a fourth at Ballarat behind Berkeley Square.

Australian form typically stands up well in New Zealand. Not so much at the middle-distance level compared to sprinting, but he’s still a good winning hope.

Include him in picks at the current odds.

(5) Aftermath ($51.00)

His form this season is good without winning, but this is a tough race. We can’t see him figuring in the finish, as the odds suggest.

(6) Dark Destroyer ($51.00)

It was good to see him back in form when running second at Pukekohe, but the level of opposition wasn’t close to Group 1 level.

His best days are behind him, and he would need some serious rain to come to have any chance of producing an upset.

(7) La Crique (Best Each Way – $5.00)

All La Crique knows how to do is fight, and she was game once again when running third in the Mufhasa behind Provence and Waitak.

It was a blanket finish in the most thrilling Group 1 of the season, and she could score an overdue win after rattling off five straight placings.

She likes Ellerslie with two wins and four placings, so the $5 odds are worth taking.

(8) Legarto ($6.00)

She looked to have the world at her feet at one stage. She finished fourth at Trentham last start, but we can’t trust that she’ll produce her best.

The six-year-old mare was the runner to beat a couple of years ago, and although she has Group 1-winning form, she’s racing a touch below her best.

We’re not leaving her out, but $6 is the bottom price we’d take.

(9) Qali Al Farrasha (Best Roughie – $12.00)

Her win at Pukekohe two starts back was impressive when beating Provence by 1.8 lengths, who has since won at Group 1 level.

Rising to 2000m shouldn’t worry her too much, as she’ll likely sit out the back and there should be plenty of speed up front.

Opie Bosson rides, and the $12 odds are generous.

(10) Jaarffi ($14.00)

She is betting close to a win after three consecutive placings, but they haven’t come at this level. $14 is too short for our liking, especially at the weights.
