BCD Group Sprint Form Guide & Tips
(1) Here to Shock ($4.00)
He’s the current favourite despite failing to fire at Pakenham last start. He’s the defending champion, so we’re not leaving him out.
We’re happy to include him in trifecta and first four picks, but he needs to improve for us to take the current odds.
(2) Arkansaw Kid (Best Each Way – $4.20)
He chased gamely behind fellow Aussie Jigsaw last time out, and if the run had come at the top of the straight, he might have gone past.
He’s good enough to handle this field, and going this way around will only suit him, as most of his racing has come in Melbourne.
(3) First Five ($12.00)
In great form after taking a Group 1 at Trentham. His Telegraph win was excellent, but there weren’t as many superstars in that field.
He’s a first four chance if you have room, but winning this would require a couple of lengths of improvement.
(4) Pier (Best Bet – $4.20)
Don’t be discouraged by his lack of recent winning form. The six-year-old has been running against the very best in Australia, including running fourth behind Via Sistina in the Champions Stakes.
That form can’t be overlooked, and although 1400m might be a touch below his best, this is his best chance to score an overdue win.
(5) Savaglee ($6.50)
A multiple Group 1 winner in New Zealand before running second at Flemington behind Feroce in the Australian Guineas.
There is nothing wrong with that form, and although he hasn’t raced for almost a year, he could return in fine fashion.
Watch for late betting moves as the best guide.
(6) Sacred Satono ($46.00)
He’s not running well this preparation, and we don’t expect that to change.
(7) Sterling Express ($35.00)
A two-time winner at Te Rapa, but that’s all the positives we could find. We don’t think he’s up to Group 1 level this time around.
(8) Platinum Attack ($35.00)
The Lisa Latta stable is firing, but this would be a big training effort. We would prefer to back him at Trentham, as he’s 0-2 at Te Rapa, and it suits front runners.
(9) Tardelli ($35.00)
It was a better run for Tardelli last time out when fourth. However, he needs to find a few lengths on that effort to go close.
(10) Province (Best Roughie – $14.00)
Punters get value odds for Province, who wasn’t given much chance of winning at Ellerslie. She got too far back off a very slow tempo, and she was never put in the race.
There will be more speed in the BCD Group Sprint, so she could hit the line better than most.
(11) Tomodachi ($9.00)
She is better than what her fourth in the Telegraph suggests, and she deserves another chance. She won her only start at Te Rapa, which is another positive.
Leaving her out of picks at $9 would be a mistake.
