Ciaron Maher lines up Big Sister Ava, who did well to finish second on debut at Seymour.
The four-year-old mare had good betting support at $3.20 on that occasion when running a length behind Harmony.
She is better for the run, and getting an inside barrier only helps her chances.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Astern Flight handled wet conditions to win a trial at Colac, and that holds him in good stead for his debut effort.
The Tom Dabernig-trained son of Astern will need to cope with a wide barrier, but he could show superior barrier speed to lead.
We’re happy to include him in picks at the odds.
Stake: 1 Unit
Too Tough showed good toughness on debut when running second behind Arabian Myth, finishing just a nose behind.
The four-year-old son of All Too Hard ran at $3.70, so he was well-supported, and that’s the case again at Ballarat on Thursday.
Logan Bates is riding in good form, which adds to our confidence.
Stake: 2 Units
It’s only a matter of time before Puglia breaks through for a maiden win after posting six placings from seven starts.
The four-year-old daughter of Cable Bay ran second at Sale last start, which was a good hit-out fresh up, and she will only strengthen up from that effort.
Barrier three with Mick Dee riding helps, so there are no excuses.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Winning form is with Titahi Bay, who pulled out all the stops when scoring at Traralgon earlier this month.
The level of opposition wasn’t overly strong, but the three-year-old filly meets a moderate field at Ballarat, and she could go back-to-back.
It’s another good ride for Dee, who could have a successful day.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Hiatus is a nice enough filly to be winning in this company, having finished fifth behind Shining Smile at Flemington last preparation.
The three-year-old daughter of Snitzel then ran down the track behind Vinrock at Group 2 level before resuming with a second placing at Ballarat in heavy conditions.
She isn’t far off posting another win, and she’s our top pick.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Rosa Aotearoa couldn’t have been more impressive when winning at Mornington by five lengths last start, and it was an emphatic way to break maidens.
The four-year-old son of Dundeel relished the soft track conditions, as her breeding suggested she would, and he gets similar conditions here.
Getting 1.5kg off his back is another positive.
Stake: 2 Units
Fortyfour Magnum could go under the radar on race day, and she should be up to the task.
The four-year-old mare by Magnus showed good speed when winning at Kilmore three starts back, and she only needs to be at that level.
Getting the inside draw could switch her on, and she also gets a claimer to ride.
Stake: 1 Unit
