Ballarat racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:25) Brandt Maiden (1600m)
#1 – Kingsford
Kingsford wasn’t too far away when running fourth in his Australian debut at Warrnambool, following a placing in New Zealand.
The three-year-old son of Almanzor ran second on debut at Otaki by 2.5 lengths, and having Dean Yendall in the saddle helps.
We expect him to be right in the mix.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 2. (13:00) Veolia Maiden (1500m)
#9 – Elation and Joy
Elation and Joy improved to run second at Horsham last time out, and getting 3kg off her back is a bonus.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare was only a length behind the winner and that form should stack up nicely.
We’re happy to stick with the daughter of Zoustar.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 3. (13:35) Manhari Maiden (1000m)
#8 – Sun Setting
Sun Setting returns from a spell with two second placings under her belt, and the Laurie stable is firing.
The three-year-old filly by Pierata ran second in both attempts at Mornington, and she only needs luck from the wide barrier to go close.
Punters should snap up the odds before money comes for her.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 4. (14:10) Vale Darren Galley Maiden (1200m)
#11 – Duchess Zou
Duchess Zou is on debut for the Maher stable, and this field is there for the taking.
The three-year-old daughter of Zoustar has looked solid at the jumpouts, and they often start well for this stable.
Barrier four with Harry Coffey in the saddle only adds to her chances.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 5. (14:45) Porter Plant BM64 (1200m)
#8 – Impish Lady @ $1.90
Gunning for back-to-back wins is Impish Lady, who broke maidens with a good win at Geelong.
The four-year-old daughter of Impending won by 2.5 lengths in fine fashion, and she could take advantage of this field.
Barrier three is ideal and she has more upside than most here.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 6. (15:25) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (1400m)
#8 – Gin Baba @ $2.80
Running with great consistency is Gin Baba, who owns two wins from her last three starts.
The four-year-old mare by Invincible Spirit owns two wins and five placings from 10 starts, and she loves running over the distance.
Getting the inside draw is ideal, so put her on top.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (16:05) Same Race Multi BM64 (1600m)
#5 – Governor King @ $8.50
Looking to cap off two solid runs is Govenor King, who owns two wins and three placings from 10 starts.
The four-year-old son of Fiorente ran fifth at Geelong before placing at Ballarat, and he’s yet to finish worse than third at Ballarat.
It’s another good ride for Allen, so include him in picks.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 8. (16:45) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 (2000m)
#2 – Off His Roca @ $11.00
Off His Roca won well at Warrnambool two back before struggling in the heavy conditions last time out.
The five-year-old gelding by El Roca is a two-time winner over the distance and getting 1.5kg off his back only helps his chances.
We’re happy with the odds available from bookmakers.
Stake: 1 Unit
