Australian Guineas Form Guide & Tips
(1) Observer (Best Bet – $2.30)
The VRC Derby winner who is all class, and he showed that when winning fresh up over an unsuitable 1400m.
He’s a star of the sport, and he deserves to be favourite for the Australian Guineas. Being a Godolphin colt, this could be his last season, especially if he picks up a few more Group 1 wins.
He’s fitter now, and coming to Flemington only helps his racing pattern, so back him with confidence.
(2) Planet Red (Best Each Way – $5.00)
Nothing wrong with his effort for second behind Observer, and we think that’s the best form guide for this race.
He has threatened to lay down a statement run, and after placing in his last three starts, he wouldn’t look out of place winning this race.
(3) West of Swindon ($20.00)
He showed good pace last season, but he might need to find a few lengths based on his most recent efforts, which haven’t been his best.
Punters get fair odds, but we’re leaving him out this time around.
(4) Sixties ($2.80)
Heavily backed to win as the second favourite. An excellent type coming off back-to-back wins, and he’s yet to do much wrong.
We expect him to sit on the speed and give Observer something to chase, so it all depends on how slow the tempo is.
At $2.80, he’s included in all bets.
(5) Bingi ($101.00)
He looked good early on with two wins, but his form since hasn’t been good. At triple-figure odds for a reason.
(6) Officiate ($61.00)
His run for fifth fresh up wasn’t too bad, but we don’t think he’s ready to produce the goods over the mile.
Waller is most likely giving him a tune-up for longer races later this autumn.
(7) Romantic Encounter ($34.00)
Better for two runs this prep, including a fourth behind Sixties last time out. A solid enough form guide, but we can’t see him winning.
Betting support would be a good guide, and he could run into the minors to boost payouts.
(8) Victorious Spirit (Best Roughie – $23.00)
A runner who could show up at odds. The gelding ran third behind Observer and Planet Red last start, and he was only two lengths away.
That’s a nice effort for a runner still learning the game, so we’re happy to back him at long odds.
(9) Onavuitton ($31.00)
He scored a good win fresh up, but improvement is needed to win at Group 1 level, and we can’t see it coming.
(10) Express Class ($81.00)
Big odds are rightfully so. His form this prep is not good, so connections are having a stab.
