Ararat racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:30) Ararat AG Maiden (1200m)
#4 – Never a Doubt @ $4.20
Looking to win on debut is Never a Doubt, who hasn’t been asked for much in two trials.
The three-year-old gelding by Dubious comes off a fourth at the Cranbourne trials and it’s good to see money come for him on debut.
He opened at $4.50, so the betting moves are strong.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 2. (14:00) Russ Studio Jewellers Maiden (1100m)
#8 – Heavenly Way @ $3.20
Heavenly Way is knocking on the door after two placings from three starts, including a second placing at Terang last time out.
The three-year-old filly by Deep Field got a touch too far back before hitting the line nicely, and that should be a nice form guide.
Barrier 12 is the only negative, but she’s worth backing.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 3. (14:30) Harris Accident Repair Centre Maiden (1600m)
#11 – Macha @ $2.30
Macha is getting close to posting a win after consecutive placings at Geelong and Bendigo.
The three-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible should find this level of opposition to her liking, and her drifting odds are worth taking.
Getting $2.30 is a fair price from bookmakers.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 4. (15:00) Harvey Norman Ararat Maiden (2200m)
#3 – Direct Sound @ $2.10
Big money has come for Direct Sound, who opened at $3.10, and that’s always a good sign.
The three-year-old son of Alabama Express owns three placings from five starts, including a second placing at Terang last start.
$2.10 is on the shorter side of value but he should be tough to hold out.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 5. (15:30) Ararat Concrete BM58 (2200m)
#9 – Amizetta @ $3.70
Looking for consecutive wins is Amizetta, who defeated a similar field when scoring at Terang.
The four-year-old got the better of Stardom Awaayts last start, so there’s no reason why she can’t win back-to-back races.
John Allen rides and having a strong rider helps over 2200m.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 6. (16:00) Ords Motorcycles BM64 (1300m)
#11 – Our Paramour @ $8.50
The Kiwi runner didn’t fire at Flemington last time out behind Treasurethemoment, but this is a massive drop in class.
She looked good winning at Cranbourne two back, and although that came over 2025m, she’s good enough to handle this distance.
Punters get better odds than expected, so include her in picks.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 7. (16:30) Bet365 Country Mile Heat 5 (1600m)
#4 – Rip ‘N’ Rip @ $2.90
Rip ‘N’ Rip was scratched from a harder race last Friday night at The Valley, and that could have been a good decision.
He looks well-placed against this level of opposition following a five-length win at Moonee Valley, which was mightily impressive.
We’re not surprised to see his odds firm from an opening $3.40.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 8. (17:00) Manhari BM58 (1100m)
#12 – Sontay @ $4.40
Sontay is much better than what she showed fresh up, but that run came at Caulfield behind some nice types.
She ran behind the likes of Bella Cirque and Escarpa, so dropping to BM58 grade at Ararat could be all she needs to prevail.
Punters get each-way odds to snap up.
Stake: 2 Units
