Albury racing tips
—
Race 1. (13:35) DLG Aluminium & Glazing C3 (1500m)
#1 – Villasaurus @ $2.05
Villasaurus hasn’t done much wrong through his career, including three wins and five placings.
The four-year-old son of Villermont has yet to run worse than second from two starts at Albury, so having form on the track is ideal.
Only the big weight could stop him, but he’s our top pick.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (14:10) Naughtin Development Flat Knacker (900m)
#1 – Sparring @ $3.70
Sparring is better than his form suggests, but he loves running at Albury, and that’s his biggest asset.
The six-year-old is unbeaten in four attempts at Albury, and he’s also unbeaten in three starts over the distance, so he should only race here.
Getting the inside draw should see him land on the speed and kick strongly.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 3. (14:50) Tonkin Group Maiden (1175m)
#6 – Monte Veebee @ $1.85
Monte Veebee could capitalise on a weaker maiden field following a tidy second placing at Randwick last start.
The three-year-old was only a half-length behind Fleeting Spirit, which is a good form guide, and we’re not surprised by the short odds.
He’s a good multi-bet inclusion at the price.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 4. (15:25) Allure Lash & Beauty C2 (1000m)
#5 – One Hard Lady @ $1.55
Another strong multi hope is One Hard Lady, who looks to remain unbeaten after three starts.
The three-year-old filly by All Too Hard won on debut at Albury by 4.8 lengths before winning at Gundagai by 1.5 lengths.
The odds are very short, but she can boost payouts.
Stake: 3.5 Units
Race 5. (16:05) Lexus of Wodonga BM74 (1400m)
#8 – Daze Off @ $3.20
Gunning for consecutive wins is Daze Off, who scored as a $1.85 chance at Wagga last time out.
The four-year-old daughter of Starcraft owns three wins from nine starts, and this race is there for the taking.
She hasn’t drawn well in barrier nine, but she’s good enough to put this field away.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 6. (16:40) Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup (2000m)
#4 – Redstone Well @ $6.50
Redstone Well didn’t fire last time out at Caulfield behind Torranzino, and this is a steep drop in class.
The six-year-old son of Cotai Glory owns six wins from 27 starts, and he’s best when he settles on the pace and kicks clear.
Punters get lovely odds, and we’re backing him to return to his best.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 7. (17:20) Carlton Draught BM58 (1175m)
#7 – Magic Leprechaun @ $5.50
Each-way value is with Magic Leprechaun, who won by a half-length at Wagga two back before finishing fourth at Kilmore last start.
The five-year-old is never too far away from the prize, and there isn’t much depth in this field, so he could take advantage.
$5.50 is likely to shorten on race day, so include in picks.
Stake: 1 Unit
