The Phoenix Form Guide & Tips

(1) Slick Splits ($4.00)

He loves getting the inside draw, and he was very close to being our best each-way runner. Therefore, he goes into our Phoenix greyhound picks, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see money come for him on race night.

(2) Cumbria Jack (Best Bet – $2.90)

Backing Cumbria Jack always comes with a bit of excitement. He likes to get back in the run, but he is armed with an explosive turn-of-foot down the back straight.

We think he maps well for this race, and punters don’t often get $2.90 for a runner of his class. He’s our top pick to win The Phoenix, in what should be a thrilling contest.

(3) Canya Mayhem ($7.00)

He has hit top gear with three consecutive wins, including the Melbourne Cup. There is arguably more depth in this field, but he’s a first four pick.

It will all depend on the start, and if he can clear Cumbria Jack early and sit on the speed, he should hold on for a top finish.

(4) Distinction ($21.00)

Four wins from five starts, but this is a big rise in class for such an inexperienced type. For that reason, we’re leaving her out. However, she is a greyhound worth watching over the next few years.

(5) Eriza Sparkles (Best Roughie – $13.00)

Punters get value odds for Eriza Sparkles, who only needs a touch of luck from a middle draw to figure in the finish.

She is always around the mark, and she didn’t lose any admirers when placing behind Extradited last time out, and that form could be franked earlier on the card.

She needs to jump well, and that’s the only risk, but $13 helps.

(6) Deadly Avenger ($7.50)

His win over Paw Oswald was excellent last start, but we struggle to see where he get to in the run. He could get shuffled back, and beating this field from behind isn’t easy.

The $7.50 odds are a touch short for our liking, so we’re leaving him out.

(7) Mallee Beauty (Best Each Way – $6.00)

The three-year-old doesn’t know how to run a bad race. She has 30 wins and five placings from 41 starts, and all she’s missing is a big money win.

Her last two starts were good wins, and it was nice to see her back in winning form. We’re happy with the odds available with bookmakers.

(8) Accredited ($13.00)

Drawing wide might not be the worst place to be with all the speed underneath him, but he might be outclassed over 525m.

He is a recent winner over 600m, and the drop in distance could rule him out.

(9) Colac Kid ($13.00)

We can’t see a runner coming out of the field, but he can be a tough runner to follow at the best of times.

(10) Daysea’s Rory ($14.00)

He was unlucky last time out, which followed two wins. Would be a winning chance but he needs two scratchings.
